Talking An Introduction

HI!
My name is Winter and I was diagnosed with PCOS in 2003. We had been trying to get pregnant for over a year so my Dr sent me to a specialist. I was prescribed a Low Carb diet and Metformin (Glucophage) in June 03 and in January 2004 we were pregnant. (as well has having lost 35 lbs!)
Once I had researched PCOS it was clear that I have had symptoms since puberty. It is nice to put a name to the problems.
While i was pregnant, we moved to a small town (from a major city) and my new dr bluntly told me with a smirk to "stop blaming my ovaries" for my weight and said to stop taking the metformin. I was angry, considering a SPECIALIST had diagnosed it. However my previous dr had given me a year prescription and I intend to use it all up.
As of January, my husband and I have been on Atkins and are slowly losing the weight again.
I want to lose weight for my son. The baby I always wanted and waited so long to have. He deserves a mom that can fit down the slide.

Hi Winter ,
PCOS can be such a difficult thing sometimes. I am glad you had some success with the metformin. I tried it but had side effects. I didn't decide to push through them and quit the drug.
I had endometriosis which was really painful so I ended up having a laparoscopy after 7 years of misdiagnosis (Its in your head, you're a hypochondriac etcetera). I weighed about 185 pounds before the op. Afterwards I felt better but gained so much weight. I fell pregnant after one year. Since the birth of my precious daughter I have only had twinges. Now I have to deal with all this weight and as you might know, losing weight with PCOS can be an ordeal. Especially when you've been OP and the scales wont move. Have you found the low-carb to be successful for you? Does it affect symptoms of PCOS?
Do not listen to a doctor who you do not trust. I saw 40 doctors before one of them twigged it might be a gynaelogical problem .
All the best and congratulations on the birth of your little boy.
