Question Help needed for figuring points for

a can of tomato soup. The can is 10 oz. & made with same amount of water, the nutritional values on label is as follows:

Calories = 100 Fat = 0 g. Fibre = 2 g. Serving size = 1/2 cup
I figured the points to be 1.60 per serving.

Now here is where I need help... I want to make it with 1/2 water & 1/2
1% milk.

The nutritional values on the milk are listed:

Calories = 108 Fat = 2.7 g Fibre = 0 g Serving size = 1 cup
I figured the points to be 2.39 for one cup, but I only need 5 oz.

I tried for the last 30 minutes to figure it out myself & getting really weird points...like 0.61 points for 1 serving made with milk & water and I know that can't be right when it's 1.60 points when made only with water.

Pleease help me understand? Anyone?

I'll wait patiently for my soup until I know the true point value.

Thanks, Maree

First off how many servings in the can? Usually it is 2.5 servings so that would make the entire can 250 cal/0 fat/5 fiber. If you were using 1/2 of the can 5 ounces as water that adds nothing to the whole can; 1/2 of the can as 1% milk would be the same as 5 ounces of milk which would mean taking the cal/fat/fiber and dividing them into 8 ounces (8 ounces = 1 cup) and that would be 13.5 cal/.337 fat/0 fiber per ounce. Multiply those figures by 5 for each ounce you use (or just over 1/2 a cup) and get 67.5 cal/1.68 fat grams/0 fiber.

So for the total can with 1/2 water and 1/2 milk it would be:

317.5 cal/1.68 fat/5 fiber Divide those figures by 2.5 servings (about 2 1/2 cups) and it would be 127 cal/.67 fat/2 fiber or 2 points per serving of 1 cup each.

Thank you Kel, I get it now...nutrition info is only for the listed serving amount. If I use the whole product I then have to multiply the info to the total content amount of the can, then divide by the serving.

So logical, and the more I tried to figure it out the more confused I got. I saved your reply incase I get another brain toot in the future. I'll be busy for a while re-calculating all the items on my food list to make sure they are correct.

Thanks again,
Maree
