Smile Hi, i'm a newbie

Hi everyone, i'm new here & thought i'd introduce myself.
My name is Emma, i'm 26 yrs old and I was diagnosed with PCOS and adhesions after a scan and a Laparoscopy last month.
Can you tell me what treatment you are all on as my GP has told me there is no treatment for PCOS. Luckily I go to see my Gynae next week, so i'm hoping he offers me some treatment.
Do you suffer at all with pain ? I'm only asking as I seem to have alot of pain round my stomach, groin, back & ovaries.. but I also have adhesions there so I don't know if the pain is from those or the PCOS.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Emma

Hi, Emma.
I don't know anything about adhesions... but since about February last year, I've had pain on my right side. I had it before, but it was very ignorable. It has been less so since 2/03. I've had an MRI and a CT scan as well as 2 ultrasounds, but they've all been inconclusive except to show that I have no cysts.
If you have cysts, that is probably the cause of the pain...
Your GP is mostly correct also: there is no treatment for PCOS as a whole. They can, and do, however treat symptomatically. If you have too much testosterone, they can give you medication for that; if you are insulin resistant or type II diabetic, they can give you medication for that. Diet and exercise are also important.

Red face Hi, Emma!!

Welcome, Emma!!

Glad to see you here!!

My personal advice: Please ask your GYN if they treat or can recommend someone that treats PCOS, and if not, find an endocrinologist that does. There are alot of doctors out there that still do not know or care to believe that PCOS is a "disease" and aren't educated in the treatment of its symptoms. I went through a few of those before I finally was lead onto the right path and referred to a wonderful understanding endocrinologist who took the time to talk to me and do everything necessary that she could medically to help me. I also had to help myself and I did that as well by eating right, exercicing, and so far losing 55 pounds.

Your pain may be from the different areas that PCOS affects...One cannot be sure though until seen by a doctor to rule out other problems.

PCOS isn't just an "ovary" disease...PCOS is an unfortunate term because the word "ovarian" appears in the name of this syndrome. For years, many people automatically assumed that it is purely an ovarian disease. We now recognize that it is in fact, a systemic endocrine and metabolic disorder. Multiple factors are at work. It should really be called the "Poly-Cystic Ovary/Excess Androgen Production /Adrenal Hyperplasia / Insulin Resistant / Hyperpipidemic / Often Overweight / Anovulatory /Hirsute / Sometimes Acne" Syndrome.

PCOS is a total body endocrine disease. It is unfortunate and confusing that the word "Ovary" appears in the name. The abnormalities in the ovary are really more the result of the problem - not the cause.

I took this from part of an article posted in the articles forum. Here is a link for ya for the whole article...
