Default Vitamins

Ok, so I'm finally doing what I should have been doing for years and years and years and getting serious about taking vitamins. I started out Atkins taking the Atkins vitamins because I thought I HAD to (Just like I stupidly thought I had to drink the shakes and eat the bars - idiot) Anyway, I don't like them because I have to take them 3 times a day and I hate popping pills. So I went to Walmart today and got totally confused by all the different kinds of vitamins there are. I'm horribly clueless in this area. I was going to get One a Day for women and then I saw they had One a Day Carb Smart and on that bottle they're talking about a bunch of things I don't know about.... but it does say it has more* (always withthe little star) nutrients that you usually get from fruits in there. Pfft. I ended up with the one a day for women....... but does anyone out there have a good method of determining what a "GOOD" vitamin is?

Good question. I know they should have "this" and "that" but heck, I don't remember what this and that are and so I've been taking the Atkins vitamins also. Only cuz I don't want to deprive my body of something and if I were to go and pick out a vitamin.....I'd probably pick the wrong one. lol

My doctor told me long ago to take a multi-vitamin like Theragran-M, Centrium, etc. I take the generic version that my grocery store makes of Centrium. He said most multi-vitamins are the same.

The things you need a little extra of, such as Calcium, I take the Costco brand. Both my GP and my OBGYN told me that the Costco brand vitamins are a Great Value and very well received in teh Medical world. So On top of my multivitamins, I take 1200 MG of Calcium, 500 MG Vitamin C, Fish Oil Capsules and Chriomium Pic... I will have to start taking Glucosimine too soon for my Knees... Plus I take Ginseng and Ginko.... need all the help I can get with my memory!

I take a regular multi vit like Karen (I think mine is One aDay) I also take 1200mg of calcium and 1000mg of vitamin C (vitamin C is a great anti oxident) and I take 2 fiber pills for good measure. I just get them all at Walmart or Costco.

Michelle, lotsa people take kids vitamins that have trouble swallowing pills, and when my friend was soooo sick with morning sickness the Dr. had her take 2 of them daily instead of the others cause they made her so sick. As long as you follow the dosage directions on the side you should be fine and its better than nuthin'!!

Before starting Atkins..... I took Flintstone's vitamins. I sometimes have problems with vitamins making me sick and they had a lower dosage and worked great.

Karen~ be very careful with the glucosimine.....when I started taking it, it spiked my sugar cravings like crazy Even my chrom pic didnt counteract it. There is another product I'll have to go search the name of it, and its what bodybuilders with IR are taking for their joints.

Hang on, I'll be back

Hmm...this all sounds confusing. Maybe I'll just stick w/the Atkins brand after all. That way I don't have to remember too much.

Thanks Robin! I am supposed to take both the Glucosime with the Chondrotin! Have you seen those in the stores? I wonder if it will spike them for me...

Brenda.. you dont need to take everything I am.. I have done lots of research, and discussed it all with my Doctors before taking anything... most of mine are to prevent what my family has...

I haven't been to the doctor in about a year (since my last "checkup"). I know I should go and get my cholestrol checked and such. I'd like to cut down on the Atkins vitamins also, but at the moment feel it's right for me (unless someone can say "ok. This is the vitamin you need to buy."). lol
