Ouch! What a disappointment. When we coached soccer, I remember how bad we, and the girls, felt after a defeat. But you're right, there's always next week. And the fact that they all went out there and played in the freezing rain and tried says something about their spirit.

Better luck next week Si! Since it was their first game AND it was freezing rain, they must have had a really tough time. Next week should definitely be better! Good for you for taking the time to coach them.

oh si... the big question: did they have fun??? if they didn't, that's a problem. the loss isn't really the issue.. at least that's my view.

i went to my nephew's football [oval ball, not soccer] game last night. and i learned something: when a boy intercepts a pass or picks up a fumble, and then just STANDS THERE,. not running towards the goal, saying 'isn't that cute!!!!!!' is NOT the right thing to say.

no matter how cute they are!

si.. don't be too hard on them. you want them to enjoy the game, yes? to learn it? to want to play for you and with you? you're a real special guy to spend the time with them.. it's important that you have fun as well.

but here's my major question: you're NOT teaching them rugby songs are you??? my sister played rugby in college.. and came home with quite a collection of songs!!!

songs would i sure i want them to have fun but there aint no fun like winning. i'm not one of the "its not the winning its the taking part that counts" kinda people if you play you play to win. no one ever plays to lose. unless there called the white/black sox.

and no making a pick or recovering a fumble and not moving is not cute its stupid cos you get hurt. i've played american football. played in the line for 5 years on both sides.

rugby....a brutal sport My son's best friend plays on a city league and he is one big walking bruise during the season. It looks like a lot of fun, though!

I play to lose all the time. Seriously. I know that I suck at some things (volleyball, basketball, okay, anything involving a ball) but that doesn't mean I sit on the sidelines and sulk. I have a great time playing and losing.

If you can react the same way to winning and losing, that is a big accomplishment. That quality is important because it stays with you the rest of your life.
