Default I am new and just looking for some support

I have been feeling so hopeless. I am 45 and have always struggled with my weight. about a year ago I was loosing some weight and was feeling really good. I started to have anxiety attacks something I have never experienced in my life. They are horrible. Was in the hospital twice for them. My Doctor insisted I go on medication , something I did not want to do but had too. I did and gained weight after going on it. I have weaned myself off of the medication and I am doing fine as far as the anxiety. Now as far as eating I do not eat any bread, no potatoes, no pasta, no soda, no junk food, no cake, nothing!!! haven't for a long time. Something is wrong because I am not loosing any weight. I have gained!!! I eat lots of salads, fruit, veggies. Drink water. My friends even say what will power I have yet I am not loosing. I am very depressed. I miss out on life because I hate the way I look. I don't want to go out and do anything. I see everyone else eating what they want and here I am trying so hard eating healthy and nothing. If my family orders out they all get cheesesteaks fries and I get a salad!! Just looking for any advice. Thank you

Welcome! I am sorry to hear about your troubles. I don't know why you aren't losing weight if you have cut out most bad carbs and junk food. I would suggest tracking the calories of the healthy food you are eating, and seeing if you are actually at a deficit which should cause weight loss. If so, see a doctor and find out why you aren't. I wish I could be of more help, but I am new to weight loss in general. Good luck!

Christine, definitely make an appointment! So many women suffer from PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) or thyroid issues and don't know it. These can definitely be the dirty little culprits behind why you're not losing weight. Good for you for maintaining a healthy diet, Lord knows that part is hard enough! Sure hope you get it figured out and see results soon. And just remember even if you are not losing the pounds right now you're still doing great things for your body with your diet. You'll get there

Definitely make an appointment for some testing... PCOS and other hormonal issues can have a huge impact on holding onto weight. I went through a period where I was doing everything "right" and wasn't loosing either. It ended up that I had many food intolerances and a leaky gut, and the chronic inflammation in my body was preventing weight loss. The solution for me was in depth allergy testing and an elimination diet. I'm trying to stick to 75% veg, 25% protein currently... As well as no dairy or grains because I've got allergies to both. It hasn't been easy, but I am slowly on a path to feeling better, and the weight is coming off! Good luck to you!

Hi Christine! Yeah, I would definitely go get some testing done. It could be you are low on certain vitamins, like D or B12, which both affect weight. It could be thyroid or pcos (which can develop at any time in your life) or high cortisol (which is related to stress), etc. Best to rule out anything medical first. You know, I eat like you do, except I have one day a week when I eat anything I want. I usually gain a lb or two in water weight (since carbs cause the body to hold water) the day after, but then I continue losing. It keeps me from feeling deprived and I think it helps to confuse my metabolism so that it doesn't slow down like it might otherwise. In fact, this week Saturday was my "Carb Day" and instead of the usual water weight gain on Sunday, I actually lost half a lb. That's happened a couple of times now, and a couple of other times I maintained the next day. I'd go get testing done if I were you, but if it checks out, you might think about easing up on how strict you are being with your diet and see if your metabolism will give you a little more love for it. Good luck!
