Default Plateaus in the same spot?

Hello all,

I am getting close to the weight at which I plateaued the last time I was dieting. I have had it in my mind that because I hit a really sticky plateau at 166 last time, that I will also plateau once I hit 166 this time.

That plateau, combined with life events and winter, caused me to gain back the weight, which is why I am back for round 2!

Then the thought struck me: perhaps that is only in my mind? Or is there a certain logic within our bodies that makes certain particular humps harder to get over?

Anybody else been through a round 2 (or 3, or 4) and noticed a plateau pattern, or a lack of one?

Funny you posted this. I am 2 lbs away from reaching the weight I plateaued on the last time I dieted. I have this gut fear that I won't be able to surpass it because I have tried other times and didn't get close.

But logically I know better and push the fear away. I have been faithfully logging my weight loss and can see that I have regular plateaus I reach as I lose weight. I know that my body may take several days or even weeks to finish a plateau level. During that time my weight will fluctuate between 1-3 lbs. Then when my body is ready I lose that 'water' weight along with a few more lbs every time the plateau period ends.

So keep pushing on and try not to let it worry you. Your body is smart and will drop the weight when ready.

Plateaus happen. I've been stuck around 175 for a month with slight fluctuations. When you diet it does slow down your metabolism. Also when you weigh less you burn less calories, so calorie adjustments next to occur
Best bet is to lift weights, add extra cardio if you can. The muscle growth increases your metabolism and the cardio helps with the calorie deficit. Sometimes it's best to do maintenance or close to maintenance calories for a bit. (I'm doing that now) and then rejump in when your ready.
The only thing that's keeping me from giving up is how close I am to my goal. And how fit I look right now . Don't want all that hard work to be wasted!
