Default Mediterranean ketogenic diet

I am following D Steve Parker's ketogenic mediterranean diet. This is my "eating template":

Breakfast:

Cottage cheese (or plain yogurt -although Dr Parker considers it too high in carbs I've never had any problems with it)
2 eggs / some ham / canned fish

Lunch:

Meat or fish or eggs with vegetables
Salad

Supper:

Meat or fish or eggs with vegetables / salad
Broth

I keep under 30 g of carbs a day

I cook and dress everything with olive oil.

I try not to snack, except on social occasions, when I have nuts, olives or cheese.

I am returning to low-carb after a long time, I hope this time it will be for good.

So is it "Mediterranean" because you cook and dress everything with olive oil? I'm not familiar with this variation of LC

Ah, I found his 3-page PDF on his diet. Sounds pretty do-able. Basically low-carb with an emphasis on whole food rather than bars and stuff. Half your meat as fish would be hard to do for most Americans at first, I think. We don't have a lot of fish "comfort food," but there are a lot of really good recipes out there if you feel adventurous.

Emphasis on eating nuts and olive oil, and including red wine. Lots of veggies.

Basic, good low-carb food. Glad it's working for you.

Sounds like my diet.

I eat 7 cans of fish a day, a lot of which is in olive oil. Two for breakfast, with a bowl of steelcut oats.

And five for lunch with a mixed salad.

I also eat dried fruit (figs, dates, apricots), a little honey, a few almonds, a few walnuts, kim chi, and eggs at the weekend.

Oh, and red wine.

I find it an excellent diet to maintain weight and build muscle. To lose, I would cut my portion sizes as I essentially eat a lot every day.

By the way, if you live in Spain I would just eat the gourmet canned seafood you have there and be done with it!

I eat lots of fish too -canned, frozen and fresh, though this is expensive. But not so much as one half of my protein intake!

I have noticed my weight is always lower the morning after a fish dinner.

Hi, I'm just starting with this same plan..Low carb mediterranean so your post is very interesting to me. I'm only on my3rd day,but so far I'm feeling good.
My Dr. said the med diet is the healthiest, and then told me I need to reduce my carbs…so I ended up here, and at the library. Dr. Steve Parker has a great little book out regarding this very choice of healthy eating. Lucky for me (I guess) is I love veggies..almost all veggies. Hope to keep in touch.
Take care,...

I like to eat canned tuna on half an avocado, sort of use it as a bowl. Just an idea and tastes great.

Hi all healthy low carbers. Today is my 7th day of zero bread/rice/pasta/sugar. I'm proud of myself (as we all should be when we make a move past those devils.)…however I'm still cooking regular food for my roomie,so it adds to the suspense ..actually I'm finding it makes me stronger…but I still want some chocolate, and a cheeseburger..Take care.

Default middle of 2nd wk. low carb with a question

Hi lo-carbers.
I have a recipe that calls for flouring..what example would you be able to advise me to use.
Also in this recipe is low/no carb spagetti sauce…any suggestions?
If this recipe turns out good I will def. pass it on.
I'm doing pretty good, no major screw up's…eating lots of veggies, and think maybe too much..think I need more protein…maybe, but not sure. No problems with no sugar tho…only in my head..so far I' able to talk over it.
Take care…and pls. carb people 'talk to me'.
