Default Is this normal?

I am on day 4 of South Beach Diet, at the recommendation of my doctor. I have about 100 pounds to lose. I know I shouldn't be weighing myself everyday, but force of habit so I just do. Same time every morning. As of this morning I am down 10 lbs, how is that possible? I know it is water and not fat, but 10 lbs of water, that is a lot, no?

Sometimes you have a big dump of water when you first start losing. It's because you are eating fewer carbs. It's not all water - you are also losing fat. Enjoy because the whoosh does not happen every day - or week!

And to The Beach.

Because you have a larger amount to lose, your losses will be more dramatic. Also, eating carbohydrates encourages the body to store more water, because when carbs are packaged into glycogen it uses water to do so. So eating less carbs will lessen the glycogen storage, and reduce the water weight. Glycogen gone, water goes with it. Now you can really burn the fat! And if you are eating less processed foods, you may be losing some water from the sodium causing retention as well. Changes happen at the beginning and along the way, but it's never as dramatic as it is in the beginning. Enjoy it! Just picture that little burst of joy times 10 when you step on and realize you lost 100 pounds!!!! Woo hoo!
