Good Morning
I would like to join in your group, if you don't mind.
Today is Day 1 of SBD for me and I have alot to learn. I want to say hello to everybody and a special hello to some familiar names: Ruth and LindaBC.
Is anybody using the SBD website to track their progress, etc? I wonder if the cost is worth it?
Well, I'm off to eat breakfast (probably eggbeaters ) and then I will read some back posts from all of you.
Good Morning Sil, It looks as though everyone has deserted us here at SBD. I wonder if they gave up on the diet or are just really busy doing other things. I know Sandy just started a new job and with all the other things she has to take care of, probably is really busy. How are you doing? The first week is the hardest (at least it was for me) and then everything just seemed to get easier. I am having problems adding more carbs in Phase II, but maybe I am just one of the those people who just can't add too many and still lose weight and don't want to gain anything back.
Good luck and let us know how you are doing. Caci
You chicks are not deserted! Some of us are still sniffing around the SBD. I have been on so many different plans and own so many books that I hesitate to announce I'm on yet another "Plan".
My DH says I am a diet slut! (The man has no class!)
If this thread dies out, pop over to the Daily. Everyone there seems to be on a different plan but all lower carb ones.
Hi everybody
Yes, I'm still around.I have slacked off diet-wise lately and gained back some pounds that I am now motivated to get rid of. I am going to give this my best shot!!!! Yesterday wasn't too bad. I actually got a late start on breakfast (too busy reading about So. Beach) so I only had 2 meals and 2 snacks. But the scale is down today, so I'm happy. i won't officially weigh-in until next Monday, but it was encouraging to finally see a lower nimber appear this morning.
Caci~~Nice to meet another South Beach Bum I also registered with SB"s website and will be using that to track my progress in their weight tracker and journal. I don't think that I can stick strictly to the meal plans but I will only use allowed foods during this phase. I love eggs and eggbeaters and V8 juice so I don't think I'll have a problem with feeling hungry. It's the late night snack-while -watching TV/reading that does me in.
I do have one question~if we are not allowed any dairy products in phase 1, then why can we have the cauliflower "mashed potatoes" that include low fat half-and-half? I ask because I NEED alittle coffeemate in my morning coffee.
Debkay~~Thanks for the hello. It's nice to come back to familiar territory.
Ruth~~~Hello my name is Sil and I'm a diet addict~LOL. I know what you mean, lady.
I had problems with the recipes listed in Phase I also as some of them used items which were not listed in his list of acceptable foods, so I just stuck with the things he said we could eat and just used a few of the recipes--some of which were really good. Some of the recipes given in Phase III looked liked they would be fine for Phase II. How do you like the SBD website-do you think it is going to be worth the money? Some of the ones in the Prevention website were not too pleased. I also noted that the Dr. was going to be in the Chat room later in June, but so far I don't think the actual time as been set, at least I haven't seen it.
What diet were you on before SBD?
Ruth you sound like me, if it's a new diet, I always want to know if it will work and how fast I can lose; although I have to admit low-carb seems to work better than low-fat. Have a great night.
Caci
Hi there, SBD chicks. I lost track of this thread until today. I did very well on Phase I. Lost about 7 lb in the 2 weeks. Then, yesterday I started Phase 2 by adding multigrain bread to my egg breakfast. Big mistake. I've been on a carbo binge ever since. I'm talking chocolate, ice cream, white bread, pie.... It's as if I have no control over what's going in my mouth. I guess it's back to Phase I forever for me......or at least another week or two. Then perhaps I'll try something other than bread to ease me back into carboland.
Good to see you Sil. Long time, no see.
BTW, I haven't bothered to check out the SBD website because I go to the Prevention SBD forum and none of them seemed to be too impressed with the pay per view version. Why pay for something we can get for free. They have some great recipes in the Prevention SBD forum. Check out recipes from Heidi. They look really yummy.
Hello all~ LindaBC, ruthxxx, caci, 2bfit1!!!! WELCOME sil!
things are now falling into a "routine". well, sort of. work is great. eating and water are going really well. havent weighed in, will wait til my sunday am check in w/my scale. really hoping to get in the 170's. my goal for June.
caci, you're the best. i wish we lived closer. well, gotta hop in the shower. will definitely be checking in often, so keep up the good work. i'm here for the duration, dont ever think i'd give up my friends on sbd.
i didnt know there was a website. i too was going to prevention's. will have to check it out.
Hi everybody!!
The reason that i signed up at the So Beach site was because I wanted to start right away (last Monday) and I didn't have the book. The website has all the book info that I print for myself and my sister.... It will be a good start for me. I can always cancel at any time. The site just went live with the message boards this week . I will also be checking in at prevention site so I hope to see some familiar names ther.
Today was day 3 and I'm down 5 pounds. I offically weigh in next Monday but this is encouraging!!!!
Last night I made a batch of chicken breasts so at least I have something ready for lunches. Usually I have a large container full of chopped low carb veggies to turn into instant salads but I've been lazy this week. Sometimes I'm just not up for all the preplanning and precooking that seems to be necessary if you want to be successful on this woe.
I've been very busy trying to get my flower beds in shape for summer. I'm very late this year and still haven't planted my small veggie patch. I do notice bending in the garden is a bit easier this year, even though I don't weigh any less than I did last summer....in fact, a bit heavier. Must be the aquafit helping my flexibility.
I too have a problem with some of the SBD recipes. There do appear to be some discrepancies. Oh well, we know what we are supposed to be eating and what we're not. I'm sure that chocolate liqueurs and blueberry pie with ice cream are NOT on any of the Phase 1 or 2 food lists.
Let's keep this up, my friends. I wouldn't mind reading a few menus...just for inspiration.
Breakfast
2 slices Canadian bacon
2 eggs
1 slice multigrain toast (I couldn't resist)
flax seed oil on it.
Lunch
Chicken breast
Avocado with lemon juice
Dinner
Ground beef patty
Green salad
Snacks
Probably cottage cheese flavored with diet jello.
Linda, I know that you can do this. If you can do the fat flush diet, then this is a breeze for you. We'll do it together, OK?
Today I did pretty good. We went out for dinner to celebrate the refinancing of our house (lower interset rate, less years and money back, yada~yada) and I was able to resist the garlic bread, croutons, wine and dessert~ so good for me. DH even drove through the DQ for a chocolate dipped cone ~yep, I refused that , too.)
So today was:
B~ 2 turkey bacon strips
2 Deviled eggs (used Cilantro Mayo to devil the yolks)
S~2 string cheese
L~Sirloin burger patty (left over from dinner yesterday)
Twice Baked Potatoes (cauliflower mashed, top with low fat cheddar cheese and bake until melted)
D~Moch Ricotta dessert (but I used part ricotta and part cottage cheese to cut down the calories. Also added alittle SF instant choc pudding mix for flavor).
Thanks for the encouragement, Sil. It really helps keep me on track. Yesterday I managed to stick to my plan so making a mark on the wall for that. Just trying to get through one day at a time. You sure showed a lot more will power than I seem to have. Not sure I could have resisted a chocolate dipped cone.
Today so far:
1 slice multigrain toast
1 oz low fat mozzarella cheese
2 slices turkey bacon
4 oz V8 juice.
Planned for Lunch
Leftover ground beef patty
Mixed veggie salad
Olive oil, balsamic vinegar dressing (good with just a bit of art. sweetener and a dab of grainy Dijon mustard)
Planned for Dinner
Leftover cooked chicken breast
Baked eggplant/tomato/onion with mozza cheese
I will be making a sort of cheesecake using recipe found on the Prevention SBD forum. Basically just ricotta, eggs and flavorings baked in a spring form pan. Man, it sure would be yummy with some luscious whipped cream (a la Atkins)
Generally, I prefer cottage cheese to ricotta as well. It has a softer texture. I have tried several flavorings such as a half tsp of sugar free jello stirred into the cheese or a tsp of sugar free chocolate pudding. It does make a filling snack.
Good evening Linda~
So far today I'm doing well and just ate dinner. I know we can do this if we stay focused. Planning is such a huge help for me~so i think that every Monday and friday I will spend time in the kitchen and on the grill fixing up chicken breasts and sirloin burger patties. Also to plan to make the mini quiches , "mashed potatoes w/cheese" and ricotta/cottage cheese desserts to last a few days. If it is already in the fridge ready to go I won't be apt to cheat. Also got some individual V8 juice cans for work.
Today:
B~ eggbeaters omelet w/asparagus spears, mushrooms and mozz cheese
I started South Beach 2 weeks ago. DH and I bought the book, and I DO like the diet. I've "only" lost 5.5 pounds on Phase One, but it's the most I've lost in over a year, so I'm pretty happy. (DH has lost 9 pounds)
I was going to do another week of it, but I think I've been cheating a little out of boredom, so I've started Phase Two today and will go back to Phase One in a few weeks.
I was able to have porridge this morning with walnuts and cinnamon, and it was SO cozy!
SIL and Linda... the discrepancies in the book drive me CRAZY!! And the food lists are really lacking.
Does anyone know about rhubarb?
Rhubard is OK. It really is a vegetable, not a fruit. It is about the same nutritionally as celery so go ahead and enjoy. (Cook it first, OK? And a bit of sweetener is in order too!)
I combine a strawberry jello made with 1 cup boiling water with two cups of stewed rhubarb. Yummy!
