Default Confused a bit and worried lots. Need input.

When I was younger, early 20s I lost 40+lbs in >3 months, in a dangerous fashion.. By not eating very much and taking hydroxycut. I never lost my hair. Ever. Now I've lost 50lbs in almost the same time frame, except eating healthy, high protein, vitamins, and my hair has been falling out in such a rapid fashion these last few weeks it is mind boggling.. I'm glad I'm almost at goal but seriously WTH?

I've read the thread on hair loss but I still don't understand why? Is this permanent? I had thick shiny hair.. Now it's thinning and frail.

I eat my fats (oils) take b12,epo and am buying biotin and omega 3-6-9 tonight..

Someone tell me is going to be ok.

I'll see if I can find the thread that gets into the science of why it happens with rapid fat loss, but it is VERY common. When you lose weight quickly, there are hormone releases that occur (women store estrogen in their fat cells). Some of those hormones basically make your weaker hair follicles "go to sleep". It is NOT permanent hair loss, some people find success using biotin to reduce the effects but it's not a perfect solution. Remember that your body chemistry is different now than it was years ago, your hair follicles are not going to be as strong as when you were in your 20's, so the situations are completely independent of each other.

I had the double whammy of rapid fat loss and hypothyroidism conspiring against my hair, I found that biotin reduced the amount of hair coming out but didn't stop it - now in maintenance I am seeing a lot of that hair growing back. Hang in there, it won't be forever!

It's extremely unlikely to be permanent.

The real question I have is why are you taking Omega 3-6-9? What the vast majority of diets need supplementation on is Omega 3.

I'm not saying ditch whatever pills you have but next time I'd buy 3 only. Unless you're a vegan - you're getting plenty of 6/9 in your diet.

I just bought (and opened) the 3/6/9 I'll give them to hubby and buy 3s lol

I really REALLY hope its a temp thing and once I'm in maintenance I'll see it slow down and stop lol

Thanks!
