Default starting Atkins

Hi Everyone,
For about the past 11 months I threw in the towel on pretty much all exercise, and ate whatever I wanted, as much as I wanted. I had "fits" of thinking straight and trying to get back on track, but they only lasted weeks or just days. The catalyst to my change and throwing (previous) hard work and healthy dieting down the drain was the suicide of a close family member. I buried everything in food and continued to do so despite my expanding girth and tight clothes.

Finally last week I *HAD* to get on a scale in order to weigh a couple rescue puppies that I am fostering for a rescue group. I was horrified to see that I had gained over 30 lbs since last summer. It is no wonder that my clothes don't fit and even some of my husband's shorts are snug (ugh!)

So I started the Atkins plan yesterday (Sunday) and am in the Induction phase. I would love to hear from other "real life" people who have done Atkins successfully - how you managed during Induction, ideas for snacks, words of wisdom, support, etc!

Thanks so much,
Michelle (rescuedogs)

Hello there,I have been on the Atkins diet now for 36 days I have a lot of pounds to go but in the 36 days I dropped a pants size and 2 shirt sizes.I Had two major health problems in the last 2 years one I got my leg screwed up with a mad infection and had major surgery to save my leg and was in bed for like 5 months gained like mad. then in may of last year I was able to start moving around but in July I of last year I broke my neck but I can walk and do most things now at IM at 80 % so IM glad IM much better. In the last 2 years due to deep depression I ate like a rabid elephant LOL and gained nearly 140 pounds. Now I eat like 10 to 20 carbs a day I feel healthy I never get heartburn or acid reflux like I used to like 3 times a week.on my average day I have like 2 eggs 3 slices of bacon and tea with sweet and low for lunch ill have tuna with mayo and a small serving like a cup of lettuce and dinner ill have like 2 burgers with 2 slices of cheese and for a snack id have like 3 slices of salami with less than 1 gram per serving in all a day like that it would equal like 6 to 10 grams of carbs I don't feel hungry at all maybe once in awhile but not to a point where I have to eat.I feel like a new man so far I know I got a long journey to lose the weight but I didn't gain it in a day either IM glad to see someone else trying this diet also keep up the work IM new to the forums so IM glad I found it so far.good luck and if u find any good recipes let me know as I will also .

Wow! Kudos to you both for coming out of very difficult times and realising that you needed to get back on a heathy track. I wish you both the best success! The WOE really does help with depression and getting that Brain Fog to lift!

Thank you for the welcome and replies. I did initially "join" here back in January and stuck to the low-carb ideal for almost a month (but not the actual Atkins) before returning to my bad habits. I think I need the strictness of the Atkins Induction right now to get me jump-started - and break my serious carb-addiction. As I read the Atkins book I knew I definitely AM carb-addicted - I certainly never "crave" steak, haha - more like ice cream, mac & cheese, etc. And of course after eating such a ("bad") thing, I would nearly fall asleep on my feet within 30-60 minutes.

I am really glad this forum exists to learn more, get recipes and support!

Unhappy day one of Atkins!

Hello Everyone!! This is day one for me too, both on Atkins and on 3fatchicks...feeling a bit apprehensive because i am not used to eating meat, let alone such large quantities of it...psychosomatic thing, really ... always had sneaking suspicion that meat and fat = bad things but am willing to give it a try...wedding is in three months and would love to have dropped 25 lbs by then... every bride-to-be's dilemma!!!! Any advice on sticking to this, getting thru the sugar cravings and what to expect on the road ahead would be much appreciated!

Goals 4me:
May 2 - 170 lbs
May 31 - 160 lbs
June 30 - 150 lbs
July 26 (w-day!) - 145 lbs

wish me luck!!
