Maybe this is a stupid question... but I'm having all sorts of clothing problems lately because of this!

On a recent dressing room adventure I discovered that dresses seem to lose about 1" of length for every size drop. WHY? I'm losing weight, not shrinking in height!

So a size 12 dress is about perfect for length but is huge on me. The size 6 is perfection but much too short. I'm really not in the business of showing everyone my business! I just want some nice summer dresses that hit a bit above the knee, not upper thigh!

Can anyone explain why manufacturers do this?

I would like to know the exact same thing, haha! I hate wasting my money on clothing that's too big, but I'm more comfortable "swimming" in something than being worried about whether or not everyone can see, you-know-where, when I bend over or cross my legs, etc.

I have noticed that in general it seems to be "the style" to let it all hang out and I am totally not comfortable with that! I see some of the clothes that are on the racks and think that even if I were size 0 I wouldn't be wearing it because it's far too revealing! I don't understand what's wrong with a little modesty nowadays.

Kudos to you for also wanting to be a little more modest!

yeah thats crazy right? I Notice that with T-shirts too. The length of a Large/XL is perfect but the size not so much...

In knits, the width of the body takes up length--so a properly-fitting 12 ends up about as long as a properly-fitting 6. There's not actually a 6-inch difference in worn length between a 0 and a 12 when the clothes fit the bodies.

I hear you! I have a long torso and ALWAYS struggle with shirt lengths. A big part of it is how they do gradients and there's also the general assumption that shorter women needs smaller clothes (on the flip side many shorter women struggle with clothing length when it comes to plus-sized clothes).

Personally, I prefer to buy "tall" tops on the rare occasions that I buy mainstream clothes (I LOVE BIUBIU for everything else).

I've always noticed that with tops too. The larger sizes seem to be fine in length, but the smaller sizes require me to wear a camisole underneath to add some length.

Because apparently as soon as you hit 13 you should start showing your backside in everything from dresses to shorts because if not the world may start to think there is more to you than just a nice *** and a pretty face
Now if you choose this so be it but really there cant be more choices?

Sorry I just went through this with my niece when I took her shopping and it made me sick.

Tell me about it! I've been looking for ages for a sundress, and all I can find are dresses that are designed to be super short even on a short person. Once you put them on me (hello, long everything!), they become obscene. I want to learn to make my own... I've decided it's the only way I'm going to have clothes that are long enough.

I thought that too! But the length difference is there on the hangar! The six fits me properly but is at least 4" shorter than the 12 when they are laid flat!
