I hit my initial goal a few months ago of 150 lbs (doing a re-boot right now and aiming for 145 lbs) but my ULTIMATE goal is to lose -100 total which would put me at 135 lbs.
I have a large, muscular frame (I work out daily and weight train 4 days a week on top) so I'm not sure if 135 lbs will work for my body.
Anyways, just trying to figure out how everyone decides on where they would like to be... is it a feeling? a clothing size? or just a number?
I struggled with what my goal would be when I started last week. When I spoke with my coach she said to wait until I had the body composition done. Now that I have had it done, my lean mass is 125lbs. Now that will go down a little the more weight I lose but she figured based on my lean mass and %body fat we came up with the goal of 150 for now. Basically I wouldn't be able to live at 125lbs because I would have no fat. I think your new goal should be based on % of body fat rather than lbs based on your new weight. Especially if you weight train.
I did the same as kikig3. My goal weight was set by taking my 'base' lean body mass and adding a 20% body fat ratio (so 121lb lean mass * 1.2 = 145lb goal weight). As I get closer to this 'initial goal weight' I plan on reassessing based on my body fat percentage (more likely will be lowered), I'd like to be in the Fitness range.
I believe I'll be starting tomorrow! This is my first post on this forum! I've been getting heaver ever since my daughter was born in Nov. 2010; I haven't been at 175 for much longer than that, but when I was at 170 I felt great and looked great. I know that sounds heavy, but for me it's not. We'll see what my doc says tomorrow when I go for my initial meeting!
I originally picked 150 but then put it up to 155. I picked 150 out of my head, sounded like a good number.
Reason i brought it up is that i'm already in a size 5 pants (sometimes 3, sometimes 7 depending where i shop) and a size Small shirt. And since i have a lot of loose skin (probably 20lbs), that brought my virtual weight to 135lbs which i think is small enough.
I have an appointment with a plastic surgeon next week to get an estimate of the work and an idea of how much loose skin.

I am having surgery in October for the same reason. I am so excited!

I envy you SOOOOO much. We're going to do the request to have it covered by medicare but its very unlikely i will be approved And if they do, they only do basic tummy tuck and i definitely need the 360 (and thighs, arms, breasts). There's NO way i will ever be able to afford it and its depressing me big time!

you never know, they may cover it! fingers crossed for you...
I am getting an extended tummy tuck plus breast augmentation with lift.... it can't come fast enough.

This is a good plan. My original goal was 140, but at 145 I an at 15% body fat and just couldn't seem to lose any more. So I am accepting 145 as my goal...I wear a size 4/6 and a small top. I work out 6 days a week.
It is hard to accept a higher number, though...
One comment....if you start at a higher weight you should expect to lose some lean muscle mass as you lose weight. It is good to reassess the body composition regularly, as the number is sometimes not accurate, but the trend should be.

170 isn't high at all. I am 5'9" too and pretty slim at that weight and that's where I'd like to be too. Good luck with your journey!!
I went with the weight that I was at for 5+ years until I met the evil woman that cooks too much stuff I like LOL...
I was 145 for a number of my adult years, but was super active, I rodeo'd, did track, and biathalon, and played hockey, but pictures of me back then look horrible, like a starving third world child...Then I jumped to 165 after a serious injury and resulting surgeries and stayed there for around 5 years, so thats the weight I feel I need to get back to.
Height: 5'-2" - 41 years old - 2015 Reboot: 165.4/136.0/135
I randomly picked 125 because I thought it sounded like a good weight for my height. Once I started getting into the 130's, I was ready to be done with P1 and wanted to phase off, so I went to 135. I have been maintaining that weight for over 6 months, so I believe I picked a good number. I could probably get to 125 if I wanted to, but it would just be too much to try and maintain that number. Sometimes you just need to go with how you look and feel. I wear a size 4 and x-small, and I am more than happy with that. I also workout 5-6x per week, weights and cardio so I do have a lot of muscle mass.
I picked 175 to start because with my height and frame, that is a healthy weight that I know I can maintain and I know I look good at that weight. When I get there, I may want to go lower, but for right now that is my goal.
I picked 150 at first because I was looking at the healthy weight range for a woman with a medium range, my age and height. Since I got to 153 I feel like I am still losing pretty easily and still have 'problem' areas I want to work on. I also agree finding out you lean muscle mass vs you fat percentage is a good idea. Your coach should have a machine to measure this for you.
