Default Bringing up new menus at home...

I finally understood how to eat, what I usually eat, to maintain my weight. I use to overeat and gain or just eat too much, as I am a little bit of a binge eater, and now I really want to start eating healthier.

I don't really cook at home. I live with my mother and sister, for the time being, and they will more than likely cook something big over the weekend to eat during the week or they make dinner. I do cook when I am hungry though. I have been very interested in Asian foods and recipes because they are very healthy and look good.

The problem is I don't really know how to bring it up to everyone in my household. We don't carry many recipes and the ones we do have are very..unhealthy. I usually don't partake in what is bought at the grocery store and food can be expensive, we have to definitely budget. I'm just apprehensive to say anything .

I have not yet looked up healthier recipes I am just wondering if anyone else is trying to change their habits from not healthy to healthier eating habits when other members in your household do not eat as such? I find it hard even saying no to the food being offered because it's almost a waste to NOT eat it with our budget. Has anyone else had this discussing with family/roommates/etc? Any advice on where I should start?

Oh! I am also a full time student, at the moment, and so I don't contribute to the money that goes into food. I just want to not waste food, if I cook it wrong, because of the budget, but at least be able to attept to do so at the same time. Is it too much to ask?

Default I Know Exactly How You Feel!

I am in a similar situation. My boyfriends father had a stroke and moved in last July. His father eats nothing but fried food, cakes, cookies, candy and chips! Money is so tight I feel bad to ask for anything--I just cook 2 meals EVERYday--they have fried chicken or fish. I have baked chicken or fish. I eat burritos, chili, quesadillas...and they eat the same but the two are prepared VERY differently. Maybe set a small portion aside from what they are cooking and prepare it yourself. Cooking for yourself is SO important in weight loss--I can NOT stress that enough--My highest weight was 256 lbs. Im 182 right now. I have lots of good tips and recepies if you are interested contact me. I just joined 3FC today and am still trying to figure out the format....I am CLUEless when it comes to computers. If you like Asain food DO TRY LA CHOY beef or Chicken chow mein--ONLY 3 grms of fat for a HUGE can, 33 carbs and only a few dollars-the only downside is that it IS in a CAN
. But tastes pretty good....I use a lot of spices when cooking(garlic, onion powder, ect)--and they are only 50 cents at wal-mart!

That's a pretty good idea. I definately agree with you Mole with making my own meals. I think i'll just start off by taking what we plan to eat and put some to the side for myself to prepare. Ugh, I hate cooking, but sometimes you have to do something as you go to meet your goal . Spices might be my new best friend lol.
