Default From a very restrictive diet to this...Questions

Hi, I am just coming off a very restrictive detox diet (side effect is quick weight loss). I've lost 60 lbs. in 4 months. I am so thankful for the opportunity to have done it, but feel that I've had my jump start, and now it's time for me to move on to a more realistic plan.

The detox diet I was on only allowed fruits and veggies (2 lbs. a day) for 2 days, then whole milk, whole yogurt (or whole greek yogurt), or whole kefir (20 oz. a day) for 2 days, switching back and forth every 2 days. I'm not looking for approval - I know it goes against WW to do that type of diet, but my dr. knew about it and was not at all concerned....even after I developed gallstones. The gallstones and some hair loss are what is making me move over to WW. As I said, I am so thankful for it - I would NOT be on the road to weight loss that I'm on now without it...even though I developed gallstones, I'm very thankful for it and if I had it to do all over again, I would do it again in a heartbeat.

For the last week, I have basically been counting points on the old WW plan (before Momentum) and have been maintaining. I just registered today for WW, and start this coming Saturday. My question is this...If I go from so little calories to the maintenance I'm doing now (doing about 25 points a day), will I lose or gain by going on the new plan this coming week? My friend is on it and said I would be on 29 points and not including fruits and veggies that I eat (which I am counting now while I'm only maintaining my weight). Should I use less than 29 pts to start with and work my way up?

Any help is greatly appreciated! So glad to be a part of this forum!

I wouldn't be surprised if you had a bit of a gain to start with. Having such a restrictive diet is probably the reason for your hair loss so I think your body may try to hold on to whatever it gets for a few weeks, but you should even out fairly quickly.

You probably will gain a little because you are likely to retain a bit more water instead of losing water. That said, I don't think it will be a real gain.

Bear in mind that points under Points Plus (current program) are not counted the same way as Points under Momentum (old program). I get 29 points under PP while under Momentum I got 23 Points a day. I found that what used to be 23 Points under Momentum usually equated to about 29 points under PP.

If I was you, I would just start out eating 29 PP (personally I watch the fruit and recommend not eating more than 2 servings of fruit -- but at least 3 servings of veggies -- starting out).

Yes, you may have a gain for a week or two but I think it will be related to the restrictive diet you have been so I wouldn't worry about it.
