Default SBD Daily Chat, Monday August 29

Good Morning

I hope everyone is safe and sound! I haven't turned on the news this morning but I know that many of you have been inundated with massive amounts of water during the hurricane. I hope that your areas are on the mend very soon!

I have nothing new and exciting to report. Life and weather remain pretty calm here. I'm up for the day ready to get some work done before I head in to teach water yoga this morning. It's my last official class, but I think everyone wants to meet up next Monday despite the holiday.

What's on your agenda today? Stop and say hello And have a beachy day everyone!

Good morning all We are okay as is our house. I've been up a lot of the night, can't seem to stop looking at pictures from around the area. My beautiful state has lost many covered bridges and small towns all over my area are devastated. We are so lucky, it appears only 1 person died. Lots of stories of neighbors helping neighbors. For now though I am just very sad. Sorry to be such a bummer on a Monday morning.

Chris, Heidi & Matilda - I hope you will all check in along with any other Chicks in the affected areas.

Hello, Cyndi

It was unbelievable as I watched the news regarding Vermont last night. It is beyond belief that one storm could wash away so much precious history. It is fortunate that there was not more loss of life. Take care today...it's going to be a tough one.

Good morning.

Cyndi, it's very sad that your beautiful state was so devastated by the storm, but I'm so glad that only 1 life was lost. Although there's a lot of history ruined, bridges and towns can be rebuilt. Lives cannot be replaced.

We still have lots of flooded roads and people without power, but kids in the area are rejoicing that they got one more day of summer vacation to enjoy today.

My DD and her family had a fairly uneventful drive back to their home in NJ last night, and were happy to find that their power had been restored. I should call my parents to see if they have power yet, but they are hooked up to a generator in the meantime, and are making out OK.

I'll be making my way out to the farm later this morning, but there are several flooded areas out there, I'm waiting for the water to recede and the roads to be passable. Cindy's parents spent the weekend with them and brought all their freezer stuff and other perishables, so we'll be helping them take everything back to their house and get settled since their power was just restored. Looks to be a busy day of clean-up around here.

I'm anxious to hear from the rest of our east coast Beachers to see how they've weathered the storm. I hope everyone checks in and is OK!

You are so right Cottage and I'm incredibly grateful that our friends around the area are all okay. Houses can be repaired or rebuilt and stuff can be replaced, those we care about cannot. We will all dust off and get to work this morning. There will be lots of opportunities to help our neighbors and rebuild our communities.

Debbie - sounds like your class was a hit!

Cottage - I was so relieved to read that you and your family all made it through without more than a scare.

Oh dear - so very sad about all the destruction. It will take everyone a while to get lives back into the groove. Hang on, Chickies.

There are limbs down around here from the wind but otherwise everything seems OK. No power outage although I was prepared. The furnace came on this morning. It's 46ºF outside so Irene certainly swept away what was left of summer.

Banking and some outside clean-up is on the small list today. And there are still more tomatoes! It's time to pull the plants in the raised bed and put in something for late fall - I'm thinking kale.

I hope your Monday is full of good things despite the chaos.

Mornin' chickies.

Cyndi - so sorry to hear about all the bridges, I saw the video. It is amazing how brutal mother nature can be.

Cottage - sounds like a heavy job (moving frozen goods)! Hope the girls enjoy their extra day.

Debbie - you "sound" great for a Monday morning, thanks for starting us off!

Ruth - I was wondering when we should start fall stuff...now that I'm addicted to kale, it's in my plans too!

I decided a few days ago I'd do phase I a little bit to remind myself of how good it feels to eat well. I eat pretty decent most of the time, but I do have my emotional eating slips. Just received the Beck Solution in the mail after breezing thru the library's copy....I need to study it more!

Have a great day!

Good morning. I need to turn on the TV and see what's been happening. And check in with my family and friends back east.

Apparently my computer is on the fritz. DH tried to install a camera/microphone for me and noticed something wonky and spent hours trying to figure it out last night. I am grateful to have this laptop and have not dared to try the desktop. I'm amazingly calm about it all. Trying not to think about everything on there that I hope is backed up to the external hard drive. The PC is only about 1.5 years old so this should not be happening. Sigh. I don't do well with technology.

Happy Monday, Chickies!

I have to run out the door in less than 10 minutes, but I wanted to check in.

Cyndi, I am so sorry about what's going on after Irene. My parents lost their home in Hurricane Rita and I know the heartache.

I have a good plan for the day -- Crack Slaw and brussel sprouts for lunch. A yummy local apple and cheese for snacks. Bring on the day!

Good morning,

Trying to do a quick check in. Cyndi that is so sad about the covered bridges, I saw one on the news being swept away.

We are still not back in our office, I am very tired of working out of a conference room, with 8 other staff members in it. But the office is looking good. I am hoping my furniture gets delivered today and I am going to start moving stuff back in. We are trying to get everyone's desk ready to go so they can just walk in and start working. Hopefully we will be back in on Wednesday.

Have a great day everyone

Glad everyone thus far is ok - sad news mother nature has been bringing us.

I am off to NM at 3a "tomorrow" and have to go home and unpack to pack for the trip. Then back Friday at 3a to pack for the cruise. I hope I made my weight goal by then!!! Would feel nice to be accomplished and make my first goal in my timeframe.

Would also be nice to lose weight while on the cruise!!!

Hi everyone. I start on Phase 1 of the South Beach Diet in early October since I will have freedom to provide my own food!
