Default Green Menu

I don't know if anyone's interested in this.. but I thought it might be useful to have a thread on the green Meta-Slim menu, to discuss food ideas and such.

So my first question is... no tilapia on the green menu??? Why, when my husband just went and bought a bag of them to get me through the rest of the week? I can hardly chew and swallow chicken since I'm SO sick of it!

(I'm starting the green menu tomorrow.)

I have tilapia listed on the green menu. Maybe you have a different version?

Oh wait... I have a newer version and you are right, it's not on there. Too bad they didn't take off squirrel instead. LOL

If it were me, I'd go ahead and eat what you bought and then get something else next time. If it's off plan, it's not far off at all. When I did it a couple years ago, I ate a ton of tilapia, and it didn't slow me down at all. I wonder why they removed it. I thought it was just a typo this time.

That's just weird. Did you double-check with your center?

Surely it's a typo. My center just told me "foods stay the same, just adjust your portions" when they handed me my green menu (I had previously been on the beige menu). Also, all the other white fish are still on the menu, and tilapia is just as good--if not better--for you than everything else on the menu...

I would double-check with your centers. WEird.

I did some research. It might have more to do with other concerns, like the fact that some websites say this species is being "over-fished".

I asked a consultant yesterday and he said that even though the menu doesn't have tilapia listed, that I can eat any white fish (including tilapia, which he said is a very good choice) EXCEPT catfish.

So glad I asked, because I am so sick of chicken, my jaw feels tight when I think about eating it right now.

Good to know! I switch to tilapia sometimes just to give a bit of variety. I usually cook up one type of meat at a time and just eat it all week long. It makes meal prep so much easier for me, but it does get a bit boring after a while.

I ate squirrel a few times when I was a kid (my uncle hunts). I had it before I developed bad mental associations. It's not bad, but it's different. I don't eat it now (or deer, or rabbit, or quail, all of which I ate at my aunt and uncle's) because I can't get past it being "different" than the more common meats. I don't know where you'd get it if not from private hunting.

I don't eat the buffalo, either. I'm pretty adventurous with seafood, though. Most of the time on MRC, I pretty much stick with chicken, turkey, fish, or lean ground beef.

I've never had squirrel, but my husband said it can be pretty lean and tough--which I imagine is right.

I also imagine it's a lot of work to get the meat off of them (kind of like quail) because they're pretty small and lean.

I'm a beef girl, but I think I'm only had it maybe 3 or 4 times since I started MRC. I LOVE buffalo though! The only thing I don't like is the price tag. My favorite thing is to buy the hamburger meat and make tacos with La Tortilla brand tortillas, buffalo meat brown with tons of seasoning (garlic salt, pepper, cumino, chili powder) and lots of hot sauce, wrapped up with a serving of veggies (bell pepper and lettuce). Then, the next say I'll take the leftovers to work as a taco salad with hot sauce as the dressing. Mmmm!

Also, I really don't like turkey or eggs, or any kind of fish.. I didn't realize I was such a picky eater till I started this diet! So I have gotten very creative with how to fix chicken to keep it interesting.
