Default Good walking shoes?

I'm looking for some personal recommendations. I'm going to be doing the American Cancer Society Relay for Life this year with my team at work, and I need some GREAT walking shoes. I'm about 345lbs, and I haven't had the best of luck with having gym shoes/walking shoes hold up very well. (I guess most aren't made for such a high weight?) I'm going to be walking (on a track, luckily, so at least it's a flat surface) for 12 straight hours, so I'd like something that might be up to the task at hand, and allow me to not be DYING any more than necessary by the end.

Anyone have some shoes they can recommend?

I am very partial to New Balance, but then I have very wide feet and they are one of the only shoes that fit me. I find them to be really well made.

I do recommend going somewhere and having them fitted, rather than just buying them online. Also, it is probably obvious but make sure to wear them a number of times before your actual walk to break them in. I had a bad experience recently with a pair of shoes giving me horrible blisters so it is fresh in my mind.

I agree with Nancy, New balance is all I wear now. I do have to get a half size larger in them. I think they are the most comfortable tennis shoes ever.

New Balance don't work for me - I have high arches. I'm also doing the Relay for Life - please please please listen to Nancy and go to a sports medicine store - have them video you walking on the treadmill to fit the right shoe for you - then break down and spend the money to buy them. You won't be sorry. I've had Brooks, Saucony and Pearl Mizuno - the best money I've ever spent.

We have only a team of 4 - should be an exercised filled evening for us!

I'm a New Balance fan... BUT!

What I did was I found a running shoe store, I went in there and had someone help select the right shoe for me. It ended up being New Balance, but it could've been anything. So I'm glad I went to a professional store. Well worth it.

Looks like we all agree with going to a store and being fitted. Well worth it. I'm 345 myself and I work at Wal-Mart and am on my feet all day. I buy a new pair of tennies about every 3 months. New Balance works with me also with my wider feet.

You're a great inspiration for going for it! Have a great day!

I have always liked New Balance (NB), been wearing them for over 30 years now. Though recently had to have my feet cast for orthotic inserts due to the NB not having high enough arches for me. I just recently bought a pair of NB trail shoes and with the orthotics they are the most comfortable shoes I've worn in a long time. If you look at NB remember the higher the number on the shoe the better the shoe.

I have never had as comfortable shoes as Brooks. My good friend, whose husband is a chiropractor, wears Brooks all day at work and I tried a pair for myself. They are really great for ankles and feet that turn in (overpronate). I've been wearing them for several years now and wear them all the time in all weather.

My husband and oldest son love them too!

I LOVE my Brooks (Beast) tennis shoes! I was fitted at a Runner's store (with the whole video of me walking thing) and they are the best I have ever had. I have low arches, wide foot, and a big foot (10W) sometimes I can get a slightly better fit in the Men's shoe. It is WELL WORTH the time for being recorded and fit and the money for the shoe!

get fitted, and try them out. I wear Asic Cross Trainers for EVERYTHING (except when I need a dress shoe, luckily work doesn't have a dress code I look funny but I wear runners with almost everything... they're just like an extension of my foot). Oh an I wear mens shoes exclusively my feet are a 11 or 12 womens so I always have to go to a 9 or 10 mens depending on the shoe

New Balance kill my poor feet. I wore Nike Reax for a long time and they were great, I just switched to some K Swiss Tubes and I feel great. Good luck!

I have the new balance trail shoes (755). They are a pull on shoe. I bought them for walking on vacation. They were great for getting through the airport security without having to deal with tying them. Now I wear them every day.
