Default Maintainers weekly chat May 23 - May 29

Good grief - I'm not ready for May to pass by so quickly. The movers will be here on June 2nd to move our furniture to summer storage so our rooms can be painted - long overdue - and I have mounds of stuff to box up and, hopefully, pare down.

We've had two days of welcome sunshine. Hope you (who are still here) are beginning to see the hints of summer coming.

Talking Good Morning all!

We are on holiday here (Canada). It used to be called "Victoria Day" in honour of Queen Victoria. Now it's the "May two four" (say it out loud) weekend and is the official start of summer (we call a box of 24 beer a two four). We have the sunshine and hot temps (shorts and t shirt weather the last 2 days) to go with the beer.

Excuse all the cultural references. I tend to forget that Canada and America are very different countries. I was censored last week here for what I thought was an innocent remark (which I did relate to eating) which would only bring a laugh in Canada.

I'm looking forward to taking my new bike out for a spin today and to the fireworks display put on by the City tonite.

Good day all!

Dagmar

Dagmar - I'm pretty certain that some of my posts are in a language which is foreign to most readers.

"two four"? Very interesting. I learnt the CB expression "ten four" from some song many years ago. What on earth was that song?

Oh my goodness, Birchie. That was probably a country song called "Convoy" by C.W. McCall. I'm embarrassed to say that I remember that fad for CB radio and trucker slang -- it happened around the time of the gas shortages. I was very young but rather observant, and one of my close friends' father drove a tractor trailer for a living.

This wasn't a good weekend. Overcast, rainy, with me working on the laptop to finish off a report & my mother arriving a day earlier than expected for her week-long visit. Also I got a really evil & painful charlie horse in my calf while doing Pilates moves after my 6 AM spin class. Life just has to get a little better.

Thanks, saef. Of course, "Convoy"! I do still yell/sing that out when we are really getting motoring. It's lost on the other (much younger) people in the car. I don't care. Sometimes enthusiasm has to reign.

The rain has passed over for now. It was torrential earlier.

Two beautiful mornings of golf this weekend! Now I'm trying to decide it we'll be able to golf next weekend as the temperatures are climbing. Still, we're not supposed to see anything over 100 (yet) so it could be manageable. Sunday afternoon I bought a new pair of golf shoes, but won't be wearing them until the fall when it's cooler. Right now I'm wearing golf sandals which is actually a bit unfortunate--they fit in such a way that I get three tanned toes and two spots on the top of my foot that also tan. So when I'm barefoot, I have funny spots on my feet. Perhaps I should wear closed shoes all the time for golf (but then I'd have white feet and tanned legs).

Oh, yes, "Convoy!" I remember that song! So funny you mention it because a friend posted a link to it on Facebook the other evening!

I had a hysterically busy week last week at the new restaurant, and now today & tomorrow I have to go to court for an employee garnishment. Another busy week coming up... I have to get better with the food and exercise, though. The scale this morning almost gave me a heart attack.

Silver - "Ten Four!" Wow, I use that phrase a lot... There was a lot of "Convoy" and "Smokey & The Bandit" in my house when I was in my formative slang years. The entire phrase for S&TB I believe is "That's a big 10-4 good buddy!"

Allison - glad you had a good golf weekend!

Saef - ouch, charlie horse is very uncomfortable. Hope today gets better.

Dagmar - I'm entertained by your cultural references, sweetie!

Bill - sunshine here, too. At least for now....

Good Monday morning everyone!

Rains have stopped here for now as well and hopefully it is officially Spring. I've got the sandals on to prove it.

Good luck with your busy week Shannon. I'm feeling like I can breathe a bit this week as dh returned from Asia yesterday. This morning was the first morning that I ate breakfast without my little Dewey with me. Dh said he woke up during the night and Dewey was asleep in my hair, one cat was snuggled on the other side of my head, and the other cat was sleeping with one paw over Dewey. And I feel like I slept fine!

Convoy rings a bell. I'll have to look it up when I'm not at work.

Hi Silverbirch! Hi Bill!

Hope your week starts on a brighter note than your weekend Saef.

Enjoy your holiday Dagmar. Yes, there are many cultural differences between the English speaking countries. I certainly learned that living in Africa.

Dh will be here until Saturday when he is going to drive up to Spokane to bring dd some furniture and visit her. He thinks he can drive all the way through (14-15 hours) and I don't think he's as young as he used to be! I'll be a nervous wreck while he's gone. Speaking of dd-- she did get a kitty last week so she is sharing kitty stories and I'm sharing puppy stories. She isn't supposed to have one in her apartment so she initially named him Taboo but she isn't liking the name so he is unnamed at the moment but will probably be Toby (he is black and white). She takes him to the vet on Saturday so if he turns out to be a she, she could get an entirely different name.

I think my eyes are slightly better but it could just be that I'm getting better at focusing as I compensate. I'm praying they're actually getting better though.

Hello everyone. Yay, I'm actually remembering that posting more than once in a blue moon would be a good idea.

Food stuff back to normal, which is good. I seldom lose my appetite, but when I do, it's the real deal... and I have to admit that almost passing out at the chemist's because I hadn't eaten in almost two days was kind of lame.

As for work: frenzy of staff meetings these days, which will probably be followed by quiet school days, since half of the students won't come to class anymore once said meetings for their classes are over. Oh well, at least I'll be sure that the ones sitting in front of me will be the ones who actually want to work.

Awww, sznn, I took a weekend off last weekend. It only took a day to get rid of the excess (and we partied--it was our anniversary and we attended a wedding). The hotel surprised us with champagne and a chocolate mousse cake upon arrival. nom nom nom

Night all,

Yet another busy week coming up for me. If my jury duty gets cancelled Wednesday I will be happy - then I will get to finish some work Wed, and take Thurs off bc of all the extra hours I worked last week. BF and I had fun riding around in the boat over the weekend, but the fishing wasn't too successful. And I cleaned a lot - My house is also now fairly clean for my company.

My office has had two vacant positions for almost a year. They were finally filled 3 months ago. The two women are really nice. I feel like saying "I made new friends" because I'm not the most outgoing person, so new friends are not very common. I took Emma walking on the beach with them tonight with one of their two dogs. It's kind of nice to enjoy the company of one's coworkers again. They also really dislike the one I have particular issues with - see it's not just me.

Allison and Jay, congrats on the loss! Keep it up! Glad the Medifast is working for you, Allison.

Bill, how can you possibly have more clutter?

Dagmar, I'm glad you're enjoying your new bike.

Kery, eat! Eat! I also have trouble eating when I'm doing field work and it's very hot or very cold. I've learned the hard way I've got to eat something, otherwise it leads to ravenous/binge eating later. Doesn't sound like quite the same results for you but passing out is still unpleasant!

I'm off to bed. Have a good night all!

Poor Mudpie! She hates thunderstorms and fireworks and we had both last night.

A lot of my neighbours shoot off "personal" fireworks now since they cancelled the display in our local large park 3 years ago. The commotion went on for over an hour. I sat up with Mud until it was over. She has come a long way - sat squished up to me with her eyes wide for the full hour and flinched at every boom. She used to hide behind the furnace for the whole night during either thunder or fireworks.

Our other guy was totally oblivious. He slept through it all on my other side.

Both cats seem to miss me more when I'm petsitting now that they are older. they follow me around and cling to me for a couple of weeks when I come back home to stay.

In Mishka's case it could be food related. He is a relatively svelte 14 lbs. now and I'm keeping him in check with the food :. Every time I come into my office he runs to his bowls and clangs it around, crying piteously.

I know how he feels some days .

Good Tuesday all! (Monday for me)

Dagmar

I know it is way too much TMI but I'm having panty troubles today! Wow! They are already driving me crazy and it isn't even 8:00. I'm wearing white pants so I had to wear panties that wouldn't show and they are a weird design and getting stuck in all the wrong places-- LOL!

My weight is doing very well which I'm attributing to my new thyroid meds. I sure hope I can stay on them and I don't find out I'm getting too much! I checked my pulse and it is 55 so I know it isn't elevated (sign of too much thyroid hormone). I just need to remember NOT to think I'll get too thin-- the last time I got down to where I am now (122), I started thinking I would get too thin and ate to compensate-- dumb!!
