Smile New girl

Hi everyone. I'm new here, and have a lot of weight to lose. I've lost and gained weight before, but am usually at around 290. Since I lost my job last year I have gone up to 360, the heaviest I have ever been, and have gone from being quite active to sitting around at home.
I've also had a lot of things go wrong in this time, and have been struggling to cope with many life changes, including family illness, my relationship ending and lots of other problems. This has all led me to comfort eat more than ever.
I am finally tired of just drifting along through life and am trying to make positive changes - the main one being to lose this weight. This time I am determined to do it.
I hope to be around for a long time because I need some support and I'd like to be a support to others, and to do this together. It'd be good to make some friends who understand what each other is going through x

Hey there! I'm new too, we can do this together. When I met my spouse, back in 2006, I went from a very active (5 - 6 hours of cardio/week) 300lbs to a very sedentary 380....now I'm a somewhat active (3-4 hours of cardio/week) 380lb...with a bad thyroid. I know its rough when you look back and see how you've gained...that's why I'm looking forward.

Emotional eating is rough too. When I finally did the two week thing from Overcoming Overeating I significantly reduced my binges, from 1/week to around 1 every few months. But last night, I ate around 2000 calories in a stress induced binge

I'm saying all that to say that our situations might be different, but I know where you're coming from.

Welcome!! This place is fantastic for support. It makes all the difference for me to have a place where we can talk about our issues and support each other.

Sorry you have been through such a rough time. I know for myself that eating has always been my main soother, and learning new ways to comfort myself in times of stress and pain has been one of my biggest challenges.

Hi there
I'm reasonably new too - got about the same amount to loose and have lost enough weight in the past to form my own army!
Happy to be with you on this journey - good company always makes things go quicker!

Welcome to 3fc!!! I hope to see you posting and getting the support that I know you will find here. I was at my biggest back in September and had many doctors tell me I had to lose the weight due to a heart murmur I have. I just started here back in the beginning of March and found that the people here are truly wonderful and supporting you when you do well and when you are not doing so well. Its a long hard journey we have to endure but just think of how better you will feel, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Again Welcome and hope to see more of you.

Lynn

Hi, I am new here too. I currently weigh 318 pounds. This is the absolute highest weight, I have ever been. I am having a problem with wanting to eat when I am not hungry! What is the Overcoming Overeating two week thing you are talking about? I would love to have that extra support! Thanks!!

Hi Jen

This is a great place to talk to people going through the same things you are, I am starting ( again *sigh*) at about the same weight as you too. Been posting here a few weeks and its a great way of staying motivated!
I was wondering the same thing - what is Overcoming Overeating?
Eating is a comfort reaction for so many of us...hard habit to break!

Overcoming Overeating is a book based on Intuitive Eating. Other good resources for Intuitive Eating are the books by Geneen Roth. I also used that method when I first started to try and remove some of my food issues. I realized that I was a huge "opportunity eater" - basically that because I spent so much time being restricted (by my mother when I was young and later by myself when I was older) that when I got a food opportunity like a party or a birthday, I would totally overeat because it was my "one chance". I didn't pay attention to if I was actually hungry for that food or not.

It is pretty scary at first, giving yourself total permission to eat whatever you want whenever you want, but it can be really healing in the long run depending on your food issues.

WELCOME TO OUR GROUP. Its nice to talk to people that are in similar situations. I know others are supportive as well but I have to admit it is nice to talk to people that have some idea what it is like at our weight. Its not the same as when you have 5,10, or 15lbs to lose. For instance I pulled a muscle in my thigh doing the kinect workout video. LOL. Hope you find the support you need here.

Thank you and I agree, other people can be really supportive - I have a lovely friend who is trying to lose about 50lbs - but when I talk to her about it, she really doesn't understand what it's like to be our kind of weight. It's nice to not feel alone in it x
