Talking New to the board, hi everyone!

Hello! I just registered today and thought it'd be a good idea to introduce myself.

I'm Katie, married mom of 2, 39 years old and starting a weight loss journey for the LAST TIME. This is it! I'm so tired of screwing around with weight loss and being fat! Ugh! No more!

I've been overweight my *entire* life, huge gains, tremendous losses, bouncing back and forth and I've finally got it through my thick head that if I don't take control of this problem now, I will be dead soon.

I started a low carb program a few years ago, lost a lot of weight quickly then started dating a very wonderful man (whom I am now married to) and gained it all back. The subsequent attempts at low carb just never seemed to work as well as the first time and I'd get frustrated and give up. Right now I'm doing a simple calorie restriction (1700/day) and as much exercise and movement as I can manage. I use the treadmill for 2 mins twice a day, I have bike pedals under my desk, 3lp hand weights that I use while "dancing" in my chair to my itunes play list and I've ordered my husband to stop jumping up to get me a drink and making me get it my darn self, heh.

My highest weight was 425. When I committed to this last round of weight loss, I started at 381.2, after 1 week, I'm at 374.8. Certainly not as fast as low-carb losses have been for me, but it's alright

I do plan on transitioning into a more ketogenic diet plan soon, but find the structure of this calorie counting to be good for me right now, it gives me clearly defined goals and limitations with no room for "creepage". (That sneaky beast that adds just a touch extra shredded cheese, a little extra salad dressing, things like that.. lol)

This is the most committed I have ever felt to losing weight. I'm not sure what clicked in my head, but something has and I'm so very excited. I caught an episode of a TV show on Netflix (Ruby) and, regardless of the overall content of the show, it grabbed me on an emotional level and sparked a change in my thinking. Oh the things I could do if I was armed with a team of specialists like that!

Anyway, I know this is long but I'm just so excited and want to scream everything out and jump around like a lunatic, lol. So, hi! Glad I found this board and I'm looking forward to meeting everyone

Cheers!

it's really good that you're excited! hopefully you can keep that level of excitement about reaching your goal throughout. i'm pretty excited about this journey myself, i'm only 4 weeks in and down almost 17lbs (yeah, that first couple weeks is a woosh of weight loss because it's mostly water, but a pound lost is a pound lost, and your joints appreciate it whether it's fat or water!)

i'm taking the many small goals approach, instead of one big goal, with a long path looming in front of me. 10 pounds at a time, and then a small reward for me! in the end, my big reward at my final goal weight, is a set of professional photos with my husband (well, he'll be my husband by then, he's not yet heh) to make up for the fat wedding photos i'll be taking in a few weeks. he's already agreed to this, and i'm SO looking forward to it.

i'm giving myself a long term 2-3 years to lose all of the 135lbs i've got to shed, but i'm *HOPING* that it doesn't take that long. i've estimated that if i can lose 1.5lbs per week every week through my 29th birthday, i can be at goal (i turn 28 on october 9th this year), and i can look fabulous when i turn 30. it will be SO MUCH BETTER to have confidence leaving my 20s. plus, i will look much better next to my skinny minny of a hubby (okay, not super skinny, but he looks it next to me).

it's a scary journey, but it's good to be excited about it instead of thinking about it like a chore. best way to start! good luck to you, and welcome to the group

Corren - welcome! We started at same weight, I am on a plan that is v v v healthy and sustainable long term but is resulting in slooow losses, this week was pretty good, but since Saturday (weigh in day) I have put on 5lbs over three days, no TOM, no going off plan. I'm very tempted to start a ketogenic plan so I know how you feel! I'm going to give this plan another month before deciding. I feel great though even though I'm not seeing the losses I am used to

Good luck in your journey, welcome and congrats on getting down from 425

Welcome Katie! I'm pretty new here myself (and just posted to you on the April goals thread about swimsuits), and am in love with this forum.

Me too! At 1700 cal per day even with minimal exercise, the pounds should start melting off you. Also, I am actually trying not to lose too fast - I want this to be a long process that helps change the way I do things, not a miracle cure that can be undone as quickly as it was done, if you know what I mean. I just want to be healthy!

I know exactly what you mean about this - it has been the same for me. I've actually never tried to lose weight before - I just let it build up for the past 15 years (I'm about the same age as you) without paying it any mind. But now that I've decided, its like a cosmic shift. I realize this may not last, but I hope I'm going about this the "right" way so that I can make changes that I can commit to for the rest of my long, healthy life.

Hi Katie! Welcome to the board!

I have tried every diet out there and for me, the only one that works is calorie counting. It keeps me focused and helps me not to indulge in high calorie foods. I'm one of those people you find in the grocery store over analyzing the nutrient facts on everything that goes in my cart, LoL.

I feel the same way that you do about something finally clicking in your head and being ready to do this for real. In the past, I wanted the weight loss right then and there. Now, I realize how important it is to lose weight the healthy way and am so excited about my new journey!

I wish you the best and cannot wait to learn more about you. Congrats on getting down from 425 to where you are now! You can do this!

Thanks for all the warm welcomes There are so many inspiring stories and people on this forum! I don't go out socializing very much in my current state so the internet is an amazing resource to connect with others who really understand and share in this same endeavor.

Hi there! Welcome! I am a newbie, too.

I'm also feeling like something has just clicked for me this time. Granted, I am on DAY ONE but I just feel really resolute to get the weight off this time. I am just so sick of being this size. My 4x shirts were starting to get tight and I think that's what really nudged me...I just do not want to buy any bigger clothes! But I have plenty of summer shirts that will fit fine even with just a 20 pound loss.

Anyway, I'm glad to have found this forum for support and I hope we can all be an encouragement to each other.

Best of luck!

Lily

Hey Katie, I'm also a newbie here, and if it wasn't for the part about being a mommy, I'd have thought I wrote your post. I could have said all the same things, including gaining 100 lbs over the time that I've been with the wonderful man who has been my husband for the last 3.5 years (together nearly 9 in total). Best of luck in your journey!! I look forward to keeping up with you.

Welcome, I just started posting (again) I registered a long time ago but I am "new" too. Newly involved anyhow. Posting/reading makes me take what I'm doing a little more seriously i think.
