Default Platos closet... ugh!

So yesterday my friend asked if I wanted to go shopping with her. I hate shopping as of now because I think everything I try on looks like crap on me, BUT I could use a new pair of jeans so I went. She took me to this place called Platos Closet. OMG what an awesome store IF you are a size 12 or less. They had one pair of jeans that were a 16 and that was it. They are a nice store though, everything is name brand and super cheap. I am not so much into brand names but man when you can find a pair of A and F jeans for 8 bucks I think I may jump on that wagon. So yeah I saw a post about what you wont miss about being fat out of many things one will be that I can shop where ever I want to and I will actually look good in what I am wearing. You could spend like 100 bucks in this store and have a whole new closet full of clothes. I honestly cant wait, they better not close before then LOL~

There was a Plato's Closet near my hometown and even back then (8-9 years ago) they had that problem.

There's one not far from where I live and I can't wait to go look around. I am working very hard on getting out of plus-sizes and probably won't go until I get firmly out of plus-sizes. I JUST WANT TO WEAR FASHIONABLE CLOTHES PERIOD! And yes, I am aware I screamed that...lol. I am tired of over-sized flowing top with arm holes cut so big you can see your entire bra strap if you lift up your arm. I just want a nice blouse with appropriate sized arm holes. Why do they always make such hideous clothing for plus-sized people?

the reason platos closet is so heavily small sizes is because it is a resale shop, they only sell what other people bring in to sell/trade to them

We don't that that store here in Ontario. It sounds great I just wanted to suggest that maybe you could buy a pair of jeans in their highest size as a motivator for losing weight. I had a pair of new pair of size 13 jeans in my closet for six years and I told myself some day I would fit into them. The day that those jeans fit, was such a victory for me! I have since given those jeans away in my "too big" clothes pile.
Anyway, its something to keep in mind. Any motivation we can give ourselves is worth it

Oh yeah I know pnk that and the malls around here litteraly only goes up to a size 12 in almost all their stores. So you cant find much bigger then that at the resale shop if the main store only gos that high. Honestly the only store in my mall that goes over 12 (other then pennys and sears) is lane bryant. Unless you shop online you cant find nice name brand stuff for big girls around here

I have a really great pair of size 14 gap jeans that are hanging on my wall right now they are my first goal jeans lol. I wear a 16 snugly right now so once I hit 14 then I am going to lower it to 10 and get another new pair of goal jeans!! I love that store its just I am to fat to shop there and it makes me sad! Its not their fault they dont have bigger clothes its not like they refuse to take them people just dont bring them in very often and when they do they go quick. There wasnt any stores like this when I was thin some 10 years ago so I am so excited about shopping there before I am to old to wear that kind of stuff lol.

Another thing about Plato's closest. Even when you are in the smaller sizes due to the discrepancy of sizes between something like old navy that does a lot of vanity sizing and designer jeans (like 7 for all Mankind), which don't, you still might have problems fitting in their clothes for awhile.

Over Christmas I visited my parents and went there and was excited because I was a size 14... right, well, a size 14 at the gap and old navy is NOT a size 14 in all the cute designer jeans that they were selling there for $10. I think now I'd have better luck but my dream is just being able to go into a store and KNOWING my size and having everything fit in that size. I know it's never going to happen (due to retailers not anything related to me and my goal weight) but one can dream, right?

I've heard of those stores, I have also known someone whole took her old clothes there for money. I think that everyone is right that vanity sizing is a huge and common pain in the butt. I also think that its not the stores fault though. They sell designer clothes, and designer clothes usually only go to what a 12 or maybe 14 if they are forgiving? I do have a pair of Gap jeans in a 14 that I held on to and I think that for me will probably be the time when I could confidently say I am a 14.
I went shopping yesterday and it made me nuts, because in swimwear, I am a 22/24, I try on a shirt from the same place and its a 20, I buy jeans in a 20 but dress pants in a 24, and dresses? size 16/18. Makes no sense. So I dearly hope for a day where maybe the sizing won't be so screwy. i don't care if its designer or walmart though, I just want to look hot. lol Ok sorry for the added rant.

We have plato's closet here, and we also have a Repeat Boutique. It's the same concept, high end resell shop. Plato's has more 'trendy' and Repeat has slightly more "upscale"

Annnnyyyyway, 2x a year Repeat Boutique runs a 70% off off everything in the store sale that I literally schedule my entire shopping around. Last time I went and bought 'big' I got 33 clothes items for $106!!! And we are talking all name brands, many with the tags still on them!

The next sale here is at the end of July when they are running all Spring/Summer items on sale. I fully intend to be my goal size and shop till I drop!!!

Geez, just writing this post has re-inspired me! I'm such a clothes ho.

Thanks SO much for this post!! I love Goodwill and the Salvation Army, but I will definitely be going to Plato's Closet when I get to a size 9/10 and lower(I have a butt ton of size 12's in my garage).

This is the second time I've heard it mentioned before.

Katydid-SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope I find a place like that here! That is sooooooo awesome!! I'm planning on saving up for goal and my gracious I would need to buy a new house just for the closet with the money I've been saving away for it!

Hmmm...there's a Plato's Closet in my city. I think I'll definitely be checking it out when I go below Size 11!
