Angry Sacroiliac Joint dysfunction (pelvis) and bulging discs

Oh Lord, where to start! I have SI joint dysfunction and three bulging discs. I bounced down my stairs on my butt about four years ago and have been in trouble ever since.
Had to stop all excercise and ability to sit at work was severely compromised. Now I can only sit for 15 minutes at a time and stand for about 30. Laying down is the most comfortable position.
Just got done with my first epidural for this year and at least I can walk around for a little, but the hip pain is horrible.
How can you lose weight when you can't bear pressure on your hips and have bulging discs? I am HUGE! I need to get this weight off of me to help my back and hip issues....CATCH 22 anyone?

Hi Funchick
I am so sorry to hear about you injury but I am glad that you are getting the epidurals. (I had ALIF 2 years ago to fix a fracture and a whole host of spinal issues)
Can your doctor get you into physical therapy...more specifically water exercises?
Would that be doable given your current condition?
I know each injury and course of treatment is different but getting in to the pool and doing light yoga helped me a lot.
What kind of a diet are you following?

Bless your heart

I am in PT but my OD does not believe my SI dysfunction is such a problem and that the epidural will fix everything, so he is not recommending the shot for the si joint (). The improvement was great with the first shot, but the hip pain is still dibilitating. I am going back to ask for aqua PT as well as the SI joint shots.

As to what diet am I following, I don't have one. I am in a new stage in my life where I am at home instead of working all day so I can plan meals and grocery trips but I have no idea what I am doing... I used to be MOM TAXI so take out was my basic meal plan, but I have an oppurtunity to get my entire family healthy! I just need a little guidance...

I am basically starting from scratch and need all the help I can get.... That is why i am so glad I found this site!

I don't know what ALIF is but I am researching it now. I do know spinal issues are SO central to everything you do in your life...I have been in such a dark funk of no hope that the depression took over my life...I finally have a glimmer of hope... I hope your pains have been relieved by your process and you have hope and are not stuck the way I was.

ALIF is Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion

I got robot/zombie parts.. sign your donor cards kids...someone gave me new disks... bless them

I had a bilateral fracture at L4/L5, bulging disks, spondololisthesis, degenerative disk disease, retrolisthesis, spondolyosis and i think I stubbed my big toe.
The hardest part was getting a doctor to treat me so I definitely understand your frustration.
Before I found my neuro surgeon I was thrown pill bottle after pill bottle and told nothing was wrong with me
Make sure you are satisfied with your care provider. If you aren't you have the right...the OBLIGATION to find one you feel is taking care of you.
My robot parts are 2 years old now and I have done 3 5k's since I had my go go gadget parts installed.
I have very little pain now.

I know that where you are right now you may feel alone, I did, but you are not
I am generally pretty shy but i have been lurking around this site for a bit. There are some really, really, lovely and smart people posting here and there are so many diet knowledge bases on this site i am sure you can find something that will fit your and your family's needs.
I happen to be doing Medifast and it has been wonderful so far.
Hungrygirl.com is AWESOME for finding healthy recipes for a whole family
I have gotten the kids and my wonderful hubby eating better and drinking more water too since I am setting the example. I got my kids to eat turnips and cauliflower .... I need a cape and like a symbol on my chest... it's like super powers.
I'll keep you in my thoughts and I hope you are able to get some relief from the pain.

WOW! I can't believe you are running 5 K's after all that! What a testiment to your will....I am having the same problem finding a doctor who will treat everything not just the things he wants to treat. I will stick with it until I am back to doing what I was before.... Thanks...
I am thinking about WW for diet plan. Posting about which plan is better at home or online? I will start my new life very soon! I can't wait! Finally I see the sunshine!
Thanks for sharing your story...I don't know how you went through all that without a nervous breakdown...I am really struggling with the isolation and desperation of not knowing when/if I will be able to use the bathroom on my own again...

My mom had a lot of success with WW. She LOVES it and has been in maintenance for several years.

I think calling what I do running is a bit of a stretch
I like to call it a really determined stroll
I wouldn't say I came out of this unscathed. I think it would be fair to say that I had a breakdown of sorts and I am still not right. I am getting there though.
Funny how things like this affect you isn't it?
Before I got hurt I was a scrappy, loud mouthed, **** cat. Now... not so much, but it's OK.I just get up every day and put one foot in front of the other and I move ever forward.
" EFF" qutting ya know ? I got stuff to do and kids to raise.

With the isolation ... keep reaching out there will be a hand for you to grab on to
Keep fighting and keep asking your doctor for alternative treatments.
Your doc may have gone to school for 12-16 years but you have lived inside of your body for your whole life.
