Default Skulks back to 3FC and the 300+ club

It's been a while since I last posted on this forum.

I joined back in Aug/Sept 2010 (I can't quite remember now), with lots of enthusiasm, a blog, a ticker and a diet/exercise plan. I did well, lost about a stone (14 lbs), and then things went belly up, I gave up, quit coming to the forum and continued to get more and more depressed about my weight.

2011 started, I started with the best of intentions, but so far they've gone out the window and my weight that I lost has piled back on and more.

As a recap I've got PCOS and had been given Victoza Liraglutide injection to help me to lose weight and to avoid gastric surgery (my only option according to the Professor that I am under). He sold it as this fantastic miracle drug, as did the nurse who showed me how to inject and the pharmacist who dispensed it. Well, it did nothing to my weight, despite me ramping the dosage up to the maximum.

I've been left distraught that it didn't work, since it seemingly works for so many other people. It's just typical.

Anyways, I started to think about a gastric band, and spoke to a good friend of mine who had one put in 2 years ago. She has had nothing but grief with it and it is coming out. This put me off even more than I already was put off. At the weight I am, I don't want to put myself under the knife or the anaesthetic.

This same friend said I should try the Cambridge Diet. It is a UK (I believe) meal replacement diet. I saw a consultant last week, and with much to-ing and fro-ing between the medics at Cambridge and my own doctor I have been given the green light to start. I won't be allowed to be on the completely restricted diet, due to my high BMI, but it's my last hope now. I figure if I can't lose weight on low calories then there is something seriously medically wrong.

I go to pick up my meal replacements tomorrow and re-start with a weight of 384lbs.

I aim to try and keep track with the forum for support as this is really my last attempt. I'm so low with my weight and my quality of life that I am ready to just give up on it.

Thanks for reading

MrsO xx

Hello!

I believe youre from the UK? Me too! Blackpool, though Ive lived in Finland for nearly 11 years now.

My brother in law has done the Cambridge diet, its hard work! It does have quick results though. The hardest parts are its so restrictive and then you have to learn to eat well after you finish on it. On the good side he did loose a lot of weight and looks very good for it!

Let us know how youre getting on.

I am in the UK I used to have a penpal that lived in Finland - she now lives in the USA!

Because of my high BMI I'm actually on 1200 calories a day, rather than the ultra restrictive 450 calories, so I'm hoping that I won't feel it so bad. But I've read good results, and if you've tried everything (like I have) then restrictions aren't so bad.

I like to think I eat healthily (but my weight, perhaps not!) in that I don't fry foods, I rarely use oils, and if I do I use olive oil. I don't buy butter, or full fat, or even semi skimmed milk (although I have to drink semi-skimmed as part of my CD plan, and well, it's like cream!!)

I'm off shortly to get the shakes etc, and start this thing proper, and I've got a doc's appointment in the morning to keep a check on things as I progress through the diet.

I want to go back to the Prof at St. Barts and show him that I can lose weight. I'm just praying with everything I've got that this works, because if it doesn't, I don't know what I'm going to do
