So I have a bunch of overtime at work and it has amounted to over 8 days of vacation time that I need to use before Christmas. I have decided that I want to take a vacation somewhere. My husband and I have narrowed it down to some place warm, but we don't know where to go. Neither of us have ever been to any of the Islands. Have any of you ever been? What do you suggest?
This is also a really good motivator to eat healthy. I want to look nice and feel confident while I am there.
My favorite place on earth is Puerto Vallarta, Mexico! SO ROMANTIC in fact we are planning on having our wedding there (once he finally proposes!) It is so charming with it's beaches and yet old mexican flavor and the food/seafood is DELICIOUS at every stop! I personally usually choose the all inclusive route as it makes it much easier to pick and choose what to eat and usually those resorts have ton of restaurants to choose from so you can make a healthy informed decision.
My favorite resorts in PV are Grand Velas and Casa Velas.
As for another place, I love Jamaica. Ocho Rios (Runaway Bay) Breezes Runaway Bay is pretty decent in price and also all inclusive. It's SO nice not having to take out your wallet to pay for things!
Let us know where you decide to go and best of luck in your search for the perfect place for you and your honey!
My best friend is on her honeymoon and St. Thomas and the pics she is sending are out of this world. I don't think you need a passport for it either. It's now on my list! I've heard great things about Turks and Caicos.
Curacao! Its not super touristy, has beautiful beaches and there is a sale on a great hotel going now on Jetsetter. If I had money and days off that is where I would go
My DH and I love, love, love the Cayman Islands. We've been a few times. We are taking a trip to the Virgin Islands over Thanksgiving and I am really excited for that too!!!
I LOVE the Cayman Islands. It is so beautiful there. Hotels and food are a little pricey, but if you shop around, you can get a good deal.
I hated Jamaica. It is only pretty on the resorts. The rest of the island is nasty and run down and the people are rude and some are threatening. Don't go to Jamaica.
I have a friend from Dominca...not the Dominican Republic next to Haiti...it is its own island...and she talks about how beautiful, wonderful and friendly it is. You should check that out too.
A cruise is a great way to see several places on one trip and they are pretty affordable. That is how we like to travel.

To me, part of the excitement of traveling to foreign places are meeting and interacting with the people and culture. I found Jamaica lovely and the people even nicer. Sure, it's no NYC. They don't have the resources to make it such. The resorts are beautiful though and I think traveling there you get a real respect for the culture.
