Default Life Long Fat, Long Time Dieter, Looking for Similar Accountability Partners!

So I am going to put it all out there, because if I can't be authentic with everyone else then I wont be honest with myself either!

SO, here is a little bit about me
  • Diets don't work for me, this has to be 'liveable'
  • I am well educated in nutrition, I get it...I just dont do it
  • I now have a 13 yr old daughter who is 260 pounds, and I am 299
  • That REALLY hurt to type...not about me, but my daughter
  • I rarely use processed foods, and I create healthy recipes
  • Eating Breakfast is nearly impossible, lunch difficult too
  • Doing workouts on Wii is a huge step for me, but we are doing it at least 4 times a week!
  • I am ever so close to that 'hopeless' spot....and I dont want to get there again
  • I need a couple accountability partners who are in similar boats (100+ pounds to lose, 40's, etc)

SO, in my twisted head the only thing that is 'running' right now is the Mr Rogers song...."wont you please, wont you please, please wont you be my neighbor"........maybe the sun has gotten to me today! LOL

Anyway, I would love to start an accountability thread, post how our day went, new challenges, new successes, encouragement, etc....

Puttin' myself out there.......and stalling.........OK going to take the plunge and hit the SUBMIT button!

And now I sit and reflect that checking my post every half hour to see if ANYONE has responded, is just a little 'broken'

Sad that years of being overweight effects us so much more than physically. I am considered a VERY strong woman, a woman in control, confident, intelligent, yadda yadda yadda. Funny how that is what others think about me, that is what I portrait in my career.......and yet I struggle daily, hourly, for acceptance. I sit back in a group of people and watch people, and wonder why no one approaches me......and then I have a pity party.......

Being overweight is so much more than pounds! SO much more.....

Mikki, don't give up. I am certain that there will be a lot of people willing to be accountable partners. I would, but I don't even have time for my husband. But, I will be on here checking in from time to time. I don't have a 100 lbs to lose, but 20 lbs now. It was 30 and it is going very slowly. I am 44 and will be 45 in August. So, one out of two isn't bad.

Hi,

I'm 42, have more than 150 lbs to lose, and am a little down because my exercise program has temporarily been derailed. I have been eating in this new style since June 6 and exercising every other day religiously until 2 days ago. I got news from my cardiologist that I have to have a cardiac catheterization and he forbid me from any exertion until I have that done. So that's a little depressing. I have not gone off plan on eating though!

Anyway, I would post to your thread!

I'm totally wrong here, I know, because I'm neither over 40 nor do I have more than 100lbs to lose - but I still wanted to send you a hug and some positive vibes!
You'll find so many people on here who will support you, who will help you, who will cheer you up and give you a kick in the bum when needed.

I've read in another of your postings that you are already planning all your meals, that is definitely a very good starting point! You create healthy recipes - another great thing! Now you just need to let us now where all the weight comes from then...

Good luck on your journey, and never give up!

Three years ago I could have almost written you post myself, only that my DD is younger but still overweight. I can't be your accountability buddy but I can encourage you to believe that long term weightloss is both doable and sustainable.

I think you really need to identify what you are willing to do to eat in a healthy way, for the remainder of your life. For me it was low fat eating and portion control. I too love to cook and knew enough about nutrition to know what I should do and yet I still got to 290lbs. I prepare very similar meals to what I did back then but most are now prepared in such a way with lean meats, more veggies etc to make them lower in fat and calories - I also reduced my portions by about 1/3rd. I do eat breakfast and lunch but keep these low in calories which together with a couple of healthy snacks usually come to 600-700 calories a day so that I can have a good, healthy, filling meal in the evening of around 700 calories. Like I said this worked for me but I'm not endorsing it for everyone as we are all different in our likes and dislikes.

I hope you succeed and get where you want to be.

Thanks for all the response......My second post was just a 'ah ha" moment about myself, and being authentic, I wanted to share that as well
I'm so strong and confident in everyone elses eyes, yet rejection is a huge issue in my heart--I am sure I am not alone here

Part of weight loss needs to be evaluation of our emotional thought process, or we will put the weight right back on.

I will be starting an accountability thread, in the 40's something, here very shortly, and I think I will call if Mind, Body, and Spirit Accountability Thread....Yeah, thats what I will do LOL

Anyone who wants to jump on is welcomed!

And Gina, one thing...you may be discouraged, but I am THANKFUL that this was caught and is being taken care of, activity is just ONE part of the process, and focusing on your food plan, and emotional state of mind during this waiting time will certainly do you good!

Hi there,

okay i feel pretty hopeless too so i would like to be accountable with you. I only need to lose 75 though. but i've lost it and gained it all back again, my self esteem is in the toilet and my son will only eat kraft dinner and hotdogs so i think i can identify with you.

i truly feel now that i have an addiction problem with food/sugars so starting tomorrow. (i've already screwed up today) i'll be cutting out the sugar which I think will be worse than quitting smoking was.

I'll check in again tomorrow!

If you aren't getting enough responses, I suggest trying a thread at the 100+ club. Or Weight Loss Support. I love us 40-somethings, but we have such busy lives, our forum can be quiet at times.

Posting in multiple forums also gives you the benefit of different viewpoints too.

Welcome.

I'll be your buddy!!! even though my tracker only shows 50 pounds to lose... which would put me at 175#, at which point I will evaluate if I need to stay there or try to lose more. I tend to do better with a buddy. It helps with motivation as well as accountability! BOTH of which I desperately need!

I'm adding you to my buddy list and perhaps you will PM me. Here was my "I'm back post"

Hi Mikkijoe!

I'm here most days, but not all, so I'm not very good at posting in the accountability threads, but I wanted to say hello!

I think that being honest with ourselves is very important and you've taken a big step here in sharing yourself with us. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other and progress will be made.

Hang around and keep us posted. Okay?

Dear Mikkijoe,

Arg! I just erased a nice long response to your post! I don't have time to rewrite it all so I was going to just give up. However, I was so encouraged by the honesty and courage you showed by your posts, that I'm determined to muddle through this as quickly as I can.

You have done what I haven't been able to do in 3 months....submit a post about looking for a partner. I'm too shy/embarrassed to put myself out there in social situations - even online, that I just couldn't do it. I particularly loved the sentence in your first post..."...stalling...going to take the plunge and hit the SUBMIT button!".....because that's exactly what I would have been feeling!!

I am in my 40's, been overweight my entire life - have never been normal and don't know what that feels like. I know that where ever I go, my "aura" is that of someone asking for permission to exist from the "normal" people. Just the other day I caught myself making one of those fake smiles to a stranger who approached me - the smile that pretends to feel friendly and confident, but probably looks as phony as it feels. Yuck. I don't want to be a walking excuse any more.

I'm a survivor of childhood abuse, and am working on becoming an overcomer, meaning; increasing self esteem (actually doing good with that), becoming more social....which is also improving. But having a healthier body that is capable of keeping up with "normal" people would help a whole lot. (Okay, I'd also like to start dating, too...something that abuse and size has kept me from doing)

It's also become very obvious that my body has reached a limit. My feet and knees get tired way too early in the day, my flexibility stinks. It wants help, and I'm the only one that can.

I too, have a Wii. I chose to use that for exercise, because after working in childcare all day, my feet will not walk for half an hour. Unfortunately, I've found that there's plenty on the Wii Fit that I can't do. But for now, it's more physical activity that I would have had. I love to hear how the Wii works for you!

Are you interested? I'm not sure how you want this to work...or if you have enough people. Please let me know.

And thank you again for posting - and helping me get started!

(and now I'm hitting the SUBMIT button before I erase it again!!!)

I am so glad you hit that SUBMIT button!

We have a thread started called Mind, Body And Spirit Accountability. I would love to have you join. Take baby steps right now and just pop in and tell us you are here, in time you will feel more comfortable!

On the Wii just focus on what you CAN do, and then every week or so try something you have not done before, those too will soon be added to the Can-Do list!
I use Wii Fit and Wi Fit Plus, I also have Biggest Loser but I have not been using that much. What I would love to do is just focus on the balance parts, but I make myself go to the aerobic part first.......theres a saying called 'Swallow your frog" If you had to eat a frog every day, the only way to do it is to swallow it first thing in the morning, and then the whole day goes by smoother.....so swallow your frog first!

So come over to our thread and join in, if I dont see you in the next day or two I will come lookin' for ya!

I just ordered a book and workbook, you may be interested in . Becks Diet Solution (there is a section of message posts on 3FC about it) It is dealing with the emotional and behavioral side of being over weight, losing weight, and maintaining. Basically about THINKING thin. You may be interested in trying them. I should have my books my next Tues, and will report often about what I am learning!

Take care, and POST soon! (including hitting the submit button!)
