Default Baby Name Drama

So, DH picks YESTERDAY, with less than one month to go!, to tell me that he doesn't like the name Joycelyn. The name he's KNOWN I've had picked for four months (or longer!!).

Now I have less than one month to come up with a new name for baby. I'm slightly pissed at him for waiting so long to tell me he's not happy w/the name. I guess he thought I'd change my mind?

The two "alternative" names are Katy & Edie. Middle name will still be Sybil (his choice, of course).

Opinions?

I think it all depends on your last name. Will they blend or be hard to say.My last name begins with a G.Names ending with K or G are difficult they kind of stick in your throat.Such as Jack Gillis or Greg Graham. Edie or Katy re both nice, Katy is very popular right now, For that reason I would pick Edie, is it short for Edith ?

Yep, he has an aunt Edith, I have an aunt Katy.

Our last name is Brooks, so on that front, either works. I also try to avoid names that would be easy for other kids to make fun of.

I think Edie Brooks would be a great name. Not overly common and not weird, either. It sounds like a girls name. I don't like names that can be either , I think girls should have girls names and boys should have boys names.

Of those two, I like Edie Sybil Brooks best as well, though Katy Sybil Brooks is very pretty, too. I now a lot of girls named Katie, but none named Edie so it has the unique factor as well.

Though, if he picked the middle name do you want a first name that isn't after his aunt? Is the middle name after one of his family members as well? You might want to pick a name after someone on your side of the family, so that would say Katy to me in that scenario.

Aren't Katy and Edie both "nicknames" rather than proper names? I thought so but I may be wrong. I happen to love Edie.

I don't have kids, but I teach and tend to have major name associations with students or even famous people with the same name. I love Edie - it's pretty, it's quirky and unique, and just cool. It reminds me of Edie Brickell who is a cool chick. Now Sybil... I just can't get past the Sybil of the multiple personalities (probably because I not only read the book and saw the movie - with Sally Fields playing the read Sybil-- but one of my college psych professors was an expert on multiple personalities, and we discussed the case a lot). On the other hand, I have never actually known a Sybil, so it would certainly be unique. I think unique is good as long as it is unique without being weird. And might I just add that as a teacher, I always have at least one Katie per class (I teach high school), usually more. It is just an incredibly common name, and I always feel for the kids with those ultra common names - Josh, Ashley, Katie, etc. They usually have to get a nickname or be called Katie B. and Katie N. or whatever. I love the name itself, but the commonness of it would be difficult to overcome. (IMO!)

Good luck!

I don't know the Sybil of multiple personalities--thank goodness I've never seen that movie!! The Sybil we'd be naming the baby "after" is a lady who was my neighbor around 4-5 years ago. Gary & Sybil. Gary always mowed my yard for me and helped me with maintanance when I wasn't around any of my family/men; his wife's name was Sybil. Stewart visited me one week-end and I introduced them. After a couple of weeks Stewart said, "you know, I really like the name Sybil--it's pretty and not that common." I like it, too, so it's not that big of a deal to me.

On the Edie vs. Katy front--I was telling that delimma to my dad and he said, "well, you know my grandma's name was Edie Damron, right?" and I was like, "ummmm, NO!!!! I NEVER knew that!!" So Edie works out very well for me, too!

Looks like my DD to be will be Edie Sybil Brooks!

I love the name Edie, and Edie Brooks sounds beautiful out loud.

Almost all of my kids had name changes at the last minute. It's hard until you see that little person, to really pick his or her name. My first was suppose to be Jared, but he ended up Jacob. My third was suppose to be Samuel, but he's Mason. Fourth was suppose to be Samuel, but SHE turned out to be my Sarah. Fifth was thought to be Solomon, but again SHE is now my Selah.

Everyone will have "ideas/opinions/people they didn't like" in regards to baby names. My second boy's named Isaac, and a girlfriend asks me "you named your son after the bartender on The Love Boat?" And I just shook my head...out of all the famous Isaac's, not to mention the biblical one, the only reference she had was The Love Boat?!?!
