I need to try hard to lose some more weight. I've been doing bad lately. I'm going to cut back and watch my calories.
Anyways, I like tea in the morning when it's cooler out. I use Splenda mostly, but don't like the way it foams and sounds when it hits the liquid. Weird, I know
This morning I used sugar, but know calories can add up there. What does everyone else use? How about truvia?
I'ved used a little stevia in the past (same as truvia) but normally I don't use any sweeteners. I started by cutting back and eventually just didn't need them.
I use splenda (sucralose) in my coffee and sometimes my tea. I drink diet sodas on occasion, with aspartame or sucralose. In foods, I prefer real sweeteners: maple syrup, brown sugar, honey, fruit juice, whatever. I've never even tried an artificial sweetener in my cooking/baking.
I haven't tried any stevia products yet... just be careful if you use Truvia that you don't serve it to someone with an MSG sensitivity, because that's in the "natural flavor" ingredient.
I read somewhere that Truvia has MSG added as a preservative? I've used SweetLeaf Stevia Plus. I now use a small amount of raw sugar or 1/2 tsp of honey in tea if I need it. I find that I don't want the sweetener in my tea all that much anymore. I did like Nelie and gradually cut back. And let me tell you, I was an 8-10 tsp of sugar person so it has been a serious change cutting back!
ETA - sucralose makes me sick sick sick, and DH lately as well. That is actually my current soapbox - I'm telling everyone I know to get off the Splenda!

Shannon - I used to use 2 packets of sweet n low in my iced tea! That is a lot of sweetener. I always assumed truvia and stevia were the same, didn't know truvia added msg.. yuck.
Nelie - I used to tell people I drank cream and sugar with a little coffee for color... At my peak I would use 8 of those little restaurant creamers with 8-10 packs of sugar... I even added sugar to my mocha w/ whip latte... I can't even imagine doing that now... I accidentally added 2 tsp of sugar this weekend because I wasn't paying attention and I had to pour into a bigger cup and brew another cup of coffee on top of it because it tasted too sweet... And I'm ashamed to admit how much sugar I used when I made iced tea... Lets just say I used the 48 ounce plastic tumbler I had gotten at a ballgame instead of a measuring cup and leave it at that...

I use Agave syrup for sweetener. I even got my mom into it. It's very low on the Glycemic Index, and lower calories than sugar. We use it in baking and hot cereals too.
I use stevia in the raw too. Not the leaves, it's made by the same company that makes sugar in the raw. I use a tiny tiny bit, and it doesn't have a bitter aftertaste like some stevia does. I also keep agave on hand.
I use truvia. It contains a sugar alcohol (the bulking agent, also provides some of the sweetening), stevia, and "natural flavors". The FDA requires separate labeling of refined msg, but msg can be found as a natural component in yeast and soy extracts. These extracts could be lumped under "natural flavors". You are probably getting a lot more MSG in your diet than you realize if you are eating any processed foods. It is a natural part of soy sauce.
I am somewhat sensitive to MSG. I haven't noticed anything with truvia, but I only notice it in Chinese food where it is often added with a heavy hand.
