Question I'm hungry all the time...please help

I feel like I am hungry all the time. And I don't know what to do about it. I know I shouldn't be hungry but I feel as though I am. Here is an example of what I ate so far today. And this is typical of my diet.

8am- One serving of Oatmeal, one banana, and some grapes.

11am- ham sandwhich with no cheese, baked chips, and a non fat yogurt.

For drinks it's either water or crystal light.

It's 1:30 and all I can think about is eating. Any tips or tricks to surpress this hunger. It may be because of boredom at work but I feel like I am going to crack.
Please help.
Thanks, Jamie

I'm not sure what plan you are trying to do but I do Weight Watchers and I usually eat every 2 hrs or so. A typical day is like this for me:

Breakfast: Fat Free Yogurt with 1/2 cup Fiber One Cereal and some berries
Snack: Apple and a WW String Cheese
Lunch: I had a ham sandwich on an oroweat thin with Laughing Cow Light Swiss Cheese, a Cup of Mixed Greens, some baked lays and grape tomatoes, also some graham crackers
Snack: 1 Cup Grapes and 1 cup popcorn
Dinner: I'm having BBQ chicken with Broccoli and Cauliflower and a glass of FF milk
Dessert: WW Fudgesicle

I'm hungry every 2 hrs or so.

Try uping your water or drinking less crystal light. Hope this helps.

It's always harder to break out of the habit of emotional eating. Boredom, happiness, sadness can all trigger food cravings. There are chickies on here who have battled emotional eating and have tips and tricks for dealing with it. I'm still working through it -I also tend to eat when bored. One thing that has helped me is to do something, anything, with my hands. It makes me feel more involved in the task at hand and I forget about eating. If you are at work and this is possible, take a 10 minute break and walk around outside. You'll get some exercise and exercise does stimulate the production of hormones that suppress appetite to a degree.

If you MUST eat, then make it count with veggies. They are high volume and low calorie so it's possible to eat quite a bit without making a serious dent in your daily calories. Carrots, especially, are great - I think a bag of baby carrots is about 130 calories total and I don't think you'll get through an entire bag! How about making a small salad? Take boston/Bibb lettuce (the kind that has cup-like leaves) and wrap some cukes, tomatoes and carrots in it for a snack. All of those have very few calories and lots of nutrition. Plus, the water content in those foods will help give you a sated feeling. Dressing is optional. Eat the veggies "naked" if possible, but add a little dressing if it is unappetizing.

Good luck!

Whenever im hungry i drink atleast 8oz of water. Wait 10 or 15 mintues to make sure that it really i hunger and not thirst. If hunger is the case try eating some protein or fiber to keep you full. I like to eat some almonds or string cheese. Find something low in calroies that takes a while to eat. Eating almonds one by one will keep your mouth busy. Or i like to spread some laughing cow cheese on celery and cut it up into small pieces. That will help keep our mind busy as well. Remember to drink LOTS of water that will help keep you full.

I would add a HUGE salad to that. It works wonders for every aspect of the body and satisfies too (I'm talking- take all that sandwich stuff, cut it up and throw it into the salad.) Then have the bread on the side

Also, how about proteins along with the oatmeal and fruit. Maybe a teaspoon of peanut butter or an egg. For me, I tend to be less starving when I eat proteins/fats in my meals or snacks.

My original post to 3fc was very similar (it was actually in a blog) "I am hungry every minute of the night and day." And it was real hunger, not emotional.

good luck sounds like you are on a good path!

yep. HUGE salads. You can have like 4 cups of salad for about 70 calories!!!!! Add a couple tablespoons of low cal dressing (for about 30 calories) and you have a 100 calorie snack that will FILL YOU UP.

I hear a lot of people complain that instant oatmeals make you hungry as well, maybe you could change up to steel cut oats or something not instant?

Beerab, you beat me to it....I used to eat instant oatmeal too, and had the SAME problem, felt hungry ALL the time. Then I switched to old fashioned oatmeal on the stovetop, really not as inconvenient as it sounds, with splenda brown sugar blend.

I guess my thought was that you might be too high in carbs? Believe me I'm no expert since your menu sounds a lot like my own.

Someone told me about the glycemic index, where if your influx of sugars and carbs are really high, your body has to dump a ton of insulin to combat it, and the result is that your body has to dig itself out of that ditch, making you sluggish and tired. So I try to keep that in mind, try to make choices of foods with lower glycemic index. Maybe someone could explain it better.

Exercise, water are both distractions for me and help me stave off hunger.

I like too, to see what foods give you the most "bang for your buck", as Robin would have said, high protein, high fiber. Oh and I like the Special K protein bars, things like that. I try not to drink my calories. I start my day with Fiber one, and I notice that helps get me through the morning. Or eggbeaters. (eggbeaters work as filling snack too, about 50 calories for 1/2 cup)

Good question, good suggestions, I look forward to coming back and revisiting this thread. xo Michelle

Mmm Iīve discovered two important things about me
1.- I need protein, if I donīt eat something with protein and maybe some fat (like a piece of avocado, almonds or olive oil) I feel HUNGRY!
2.- The visual part of food is also important to me. I need a HUGE salad, lettuce, tomato, carrots, etc. Seeing this big thing (although it has around 80 cals) makes me feel less hungry!

Hope it works...itīs horrible to feel hungry!

A couple tablespoons of ground flaxseed in my oats helps too!

Anyone got any suggestions on some filling breakfasts that I can take to work with me? I work out in the am before work and don't really have time to make something and eat before work.

A personal favorite portable breakfast is a low carb, whole wheat tortilla (50 calories) with 1 tbsp natural peanut butter, wrapped around either a banana or some apple slices. It has fiber (tortilla and fruit), some healthy carbs, protein and fat (from the PB). It's filling, takes 2 minutes to throw together, and goes into a bag perfectly for travel. And if you have a fridge at work, you can keep all ingredients on hand (tortillas and fruit in your desk, PB jar in the fridge) so you don't even have to pack ahead.
