Default What snacks to eat when hungry

What are some healthy snacks that everyone eats when they are hungry? I am munching on some carrots right now. What other snacks are there that are healthy and won't me gain weight from?

I'm a big fan of fruit. In the summer, I eat cherries nearly every day (low in calories, rich in valuable nutrients). I also love: oranges, watermelon (when in season), nectarines and mangos. I try to follow what's in season - it tastes better and it's cheaper.

I also eat string cheese almost every day.

Grapes, apples and pears last a long time in the fridge. In season, they can be pretty cheap. Cherries also last a good while compared to rasp-, black- and blueberries. I also eat 1/2 cup yogurt (plain, nonfat) mixed with 1 tsp (measured) brown sugar mixed with fruit. You can even use it as a dip for fruit.

There are plenty of healthy snacks, but I should warn you that even THEY can cause weight gain if overeaten. Just because something is healthy, doesn't necessarily mean we can't gain weight from eating it.

Some of my favorite snacks:

Berries - blue, black, rasp, straw - yummm
Peaches
Cherries
Watermelon
Cantalope
Grapes - try them frozen
Frozen banana slices
Sliced apple with cinnamon
peach
cucumber salad
tomato salad
other salads
no fat/no sugar yogurt - partially frozen with 1/4 cup fiber one mixed in.
Veggie egg white omlette
broiled zucchini and tomatoes with Parmesan cheese
all different sorts of roasted veggies
Veggie platter - string beans, cukes, celery, baby carrots - with salsa or red pepper dip

Yep - you can overeat even the healthiest snacks.

My current favorites are:
Popcorn (air-popped or on stove in a whirly-pop or similar)

Smoothies w/ 1/2 cup nonfat greek yogurt, 1 cup unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk, 3/4 cup frozen fruit, and a splash of sugar free vanilla torani...soo good, and high in protein.

Fruit, particularly frozen grapes, because they take a long time to eat

An apple, paired with some light cheese (like a 35 calorie laughing cow wedge, or a 50 calorie babybel light)

Nonfat greek yogurt w/ berries

Low carb whole wheat tortilla w/ 1 tbsp cream cheese or hummus, turkey, and veggies

Right now my daily snack for the month is a bowl of sliced tomatoes. I bet I eat 5-8 tomatoes a day. My garden is producing a major OVER abundance of them. I love tomatoes. You should see how many I have canned, dehydrated and salsa-fied. Oh, I love to take a piece of 40 calorie bread, toast it and melt a thin slice of cheese (60 cals.) on it and then a thick slice of tomato, a little chopped basil and garlic salt...OMG to die for! It's like a low calorie bruschetta, at about 110 calories.

I also eat loads of cantaloupe and watermelon right now. Fresh and juicy.

2 figs with a slice of prosciutto wrapped around each = 100-120 calories

5 ritz crackers with a smidgeon of blue cheese = 100 calories

One slice of crusty bread toasted, topped with diced tomatoes, a drizzle of olive oil, and sprinkled with salt and oregano = about 150-200 calories

Low fat greek yogurt with berries (learned from another thread that you could freeze the yogurt first!)

Carrot and celery sticks dipped in hummus

Banana slices drizzled with honey and cinammon

I have oatmeal and yogurt, apples and peanut butter, 2 ounces of skim cheese with fruit... Honestly, when I'm *hungry* I have a meal. When I feel like *snacking* I have non-fat yogurt, a cup of tea/non-fat latte, pudding cups, carrots, fruit...

My snacks are almost always fruits and veggies. Once in awhile if I want something really sweet I have a lowfat yogurt, but I'm boring 98% of the time just a fruit or veggie.
