Default Moody with diabetes meds?

I have a question for you ladies. My husband takes glucophage, amaryl, byetta, vytorin and altace as diabetes meds. When he misses them a few days in a row, he gets really depressed. He really is like a different person really. He's obviously not super compliant with meds and even less so with blood sugar checks so I didn't know if it was a hypoglycemia episode or if it's something to do with going on and off the meds? Anyone experience similar issues? Thanks!

I think you should discuss the situation with his doctor.

In the meantime, my guess would be that it is more likely a combination of the lack of control of his blood pressure (that's what the Altace is for); his cholesterol (for which the Vytorin has been prescribed) and high (hyperglycemia) blood sugar levels.

All of these factors would likely combine to make him feel rather crummy and thus his mood would probably be a bit crummy as well

Hi SunnyB !!!

I get depressed when my sugar is high.

So it makes sense to me that if he didn't take his meds and his sugar was high he would be depressed.

Also, depression is a common side effect of diabetes and having to deal with it.

I agree with meowee, these things need to be discussed with his doctor.
