Default Question regarding using a pedometer

Hey folks! I just ordered a new pedometer and it should be here in a few days. I used to have a cheap one that I didn't like too much, so I've spent a little more money on a new brand-name one and one of the features makes me have a question.

The new pedometer will be able to tell the difference between normal walking and aerobic-type activity, and it will count those differently. So I guess there will be two different counts, if I'm understanding this correctly?

But in the past I have taken my old pedometer off my belt before I started any type of workout. I only used it on my daily walks, during housework, shopping, etc. Are the "steps" we take during a workout supposed to be counted as part of our daily goal (10k steps per day or whatever your goal is)?

I guess I'm confused, and trying to ask this question is confusing me more. Any advice on how to use my new pedometer would be appreciated.

Your pedometer will count every step you take. Every step counts, even if you're walking around the grocery store... as long as you have it with you it will count your steps.

Once the pedometer senses that you're walking aerobically for at least 10 minutes then the aerobic step counter kicks in. Any time during the day than you walk aerobically for more than 10 minutes it will continue to add those steps to your aerobic step tally. But also realize that the total amount of time and aerobic steps you walk is PART OF your daily total.

Hypothetically it will say something like this
Total 10,000
Aerobic 7,050 - 52 min.

This means that you have walked a TOTAL of 10,000 and of those steps 7,050 have been aerobic.

Okay, that makes sense. I like that, because before I had never counted my aerobic steps. So I never could get to my step goal, but maybe counting my workout will help.

Thank you so much! I am looking forward to getting my new pedometer!
