Question Getting a haircut Thursday--what should I do with my long, straight hair?

Hi everyone--

As the subject says, I'm getting my hair cut on Thursday and I don't know what to do. My whole life I have had long, straight hair without bangs. When I say long, I mean long--always at least to the bra strap and I am a tallish lady!

I have a round face and medium thickness of hair. It's naturally blonde with teeny bit of red and gold.

I usually wear it in side parted ponytails because when it's down, it's like wearing a sweater because it makes me really hot and it gets all over the place.

I was thinking that I wanted some sort of side swept bang and layers, but I'm afraid how it'll be all in my face for workout.

Just thought I'd throw this out there. Who knows, maybe some of you out there are hair geniuses!

When you have it done let me know. Mine is naturally blonde, with red highlights and a little brown highlights underneath... now God has gone heavier on the white highlights (lol). I already have bangs swept to the side-- even though they don't sweep right. My hair was thick before the weight loss..... it is thinning now. I am thinking a perm, but not sure. I too am tall

If you are looking for a major change... go short! I love my short hair.... especially when I work out. And it is great for the summer! I have hair that is almost chin length in the front... is angled on the sides and is short and spikey in the back. .... The side bang and the layers sound like a good idea... get the side bangs long enough that you could clip is back off your face for workouts.

Do a Google search for hairstyles that fit round faces. There are tons of sites out there. I have a round face and I like wearing my hair in layers that fall just to my shoulders. I also have to have bangs, which cuts the roundness of my face. Make sure you are going to a really good hairstylist and have a consultation before she/he ever picks up the scissors.

for those of us with round faces, it's generally advised to keep the hair shoulder length or at least past the chin. i'm not sure about your age or lifestyle, but layers seem pretty versatile. as for the bangs, if you get longer ones swept to the side, then you can usually pin them up when you work out. mine are sorta short now (and not side swept at the moment) so i just leave them when i work out. when they're a little longer but also still just straight down i stick em back with a tight plastic headband. not ideal in terms of fashion sense, but it sure gets the job done.

Myself, I am tall as well and my hair is long... Well, I thought it was long until you said how long yours is and now I guess my hair is SUPER long, lol. I've got it down to my natural waist and I love it! I have also had long hair for most of my life. I decided I wanted to at least try a short haircut a few years ago and I hated it. It was a cute style and such, but I really, really missed my long hair. Needless to say, since then I have been growing it out and am finally done.
I guess all I am saying is to take it slow. If you aren't sure if you'll like short hair, then try getting a few inches off at a time. Or maybe get the best of both worlds and go with cutting a few inches off and then layers on top of that. As for the bangs, I had bangs all my life and grew them out just before I chopped my hair off (to my shoulders), so I am happy to not have to worry about them any longer. If you're like me and your forehead sweats when you work out, I would say it might be better to go with face framing layers in the front section of your hair. I have them and I love it. It's like having a taste of short-ness without chopping it off.
Whatever you decide I am sure it will be cute!!

No recommendations on styles; but I do recommend if you want to go short, just cut a couple of inches off at a time, don't cut it all at once, this way you have more control of how short you want to go and if it turns out you change your mind going short it won't take too long to regrow back.

If you do commit to getting at least 8 inches off, you might want to consider donating your beautiful hair to Locks of Love or some other group such as that. Here are some links if you are interested:

Here's hoping your cut goes well!

When I first read the thread, I was thinking that you were asking what to do with the "leftover hair," and was also going to recommend Locks of Love.

My hair is getting to the stage when I can do that again. My hair is dyed and highlighted, and Locks of Love does allow donations of permed and/or colored hair donation as long as it's 10" long (some organizations have stricter guidelines and the hair must be unprocessed, with some exceptions).
