Default Sidelined and Not Too Thrilled

I guess my older body is getting the best of me! I have an injury and I am not quite sure what is going on. I have some pain at the top of my leg right around where the hip and pelvis are. I read some and am concluding that it is either a hip flexor strain or possibly could even be a stress fracture. Has anyone here had to deal with something similar? I go to the doctor at the beginning of May for something else and will do something about it then if it still hurts.

It hurts at the beginning of my run but once I get warmed up it seems some better. It hurts when I lift my leg towards my chest and makes it very hard to even lift it at all. I am not sure if I should keep running on it or not until after I get it checked out. I am really bummed as I only have 8 more pounds to go and this could really throw a wrench in my weight loss plan. Plus I am training with my daughter for our running club and 5K at the end of May and am training for a 25 mile bike trip the Monday after our 5K run the Friday before. Maybe I am training to hard and too much? Any advice or tips for me? Sorry I haven't been keeping up much on the threads since getting back from my trip. Life is pretty busy right now and has gotten pretty overwhelming.

If it continues to hurt, I'd get it checked out before you hurt it further. If it's something that is helped by warming up, it probably isn't anything serious, but it's better to be safe than sorry!

I definitely would stop what you are doing- I kept going and working out even though I had pain in my left foot. Finally one day during a training session my foot just gave out on me. I couldn't walk on it, I couldn't balance. Turns out I had tendonitis in the foot.

PAIN IS BAD, don't ignore it

Agree with Beerab - don't wait. I grew up in the swimming community of "no pain, no gain", and ended up spending 7 YEARS fighting tendonitis in both shoulders. Now that I'm thinking about it, you might want to consider making a phone call to a store that specializes in runner's footwear ... they might be able to analyze your running motion and see if your weightloss has shifted your gait, or if your shoes are worn? It could just as easily be something simple, but the sooner you do your root cause, the sooner you can get it healed and get back out on the road. Good luck!!!

Definitely listen to your body... It's a pain to be sidelined, but you don't want to do any permanent damage... Good luck and keep us posted!

I agree! get it checked! if you want to do all the things you plan to do in the coming month you'll want to know you are not causing any permanent damage!

I'm so sorry this has happened!
