Default Snack Suggestions for Travel

We're going to England to walk around the Cotswolds. I'm not sure what to take on the plane or while hiking. I have no idea what's available in stores (assuming there are grocery stores in the villages we're visiting) so I thought I'd try to pack some stuff. But I'm not sure what to pack. While nuts and seeds are healthy and packable, I have a hard time keeping it to a handful, unfortunately. Any low-calorie, non-refrigerated, energy bar-type recipes? What kind of food have you taken on a long plane ride and while hiking?

Thank you!

I love the Kashi pumpkin Flax bars they taste like graham crackers, and the Fiber one bars are very filling. A lot of the popcorn companies make 100 calorie bags if you can find out in advance if you can have access to a microwave.

My favorite travel foods are: Nabisco sugar free pudding cups, almonds, sugar free fruit cups or fresh fruit, raw carrots, fiber one cereal, tuna packets, low fat cheese sticks, nutritional snickers (my favorite) and vitamuffins - I'm a snacker!

If you are checking luggage, take some almond butter (or other favorite nut butter with you). I've heard that nut butters aren't too common in europe but TSA won't allow them through security on your carry on. There are a lot of good vegan bars available such as lara bars and luna bars. You could probably pick up some crackers/bread as well as fruit when you are over there. You could also take some crackers/bread with you on the plane as well but I'd avoid fresh fruit/veggies due to customs.

Although really I've been known to take a lot of bars with me when I travel so bars are a decent answer.

Thanks for the suggestions! I didn't know about fresh fruit/veggies and custom issues, Nelie. Shoot--I really wanted to take baby carrots. Bars seem like a good idea. I'll have to go check out Costco first and see if they have anything that's suitable.

I always take pretzels, PB crackers, bars like Nelie suggested and dried fruit with me to snack on!

You could probably take baby carrots, if they are in a package but then again I'd probably check customs information on the country you are visiting. I know fresh fruit can be an issue with some countries, including the US.
