Default Funny Happenings at Home

My brother and his family live with me and my dad. I hadnt told them about starting Atkins because I know how they feel about "low carb" anything. My brother has said repeatedly that people who do that are crazy.

I was making some low carb snacks to bring to work and in the time I ate dinner, my brother wolfed down all my snacks! I couldnt believe it! I thought to myself "guess Im not so crazy after all!"

I mentioned this to his wife and told her about doing Atkins and she couldnt stop laughing. She said I should tell him next time so this way he wont eat them. I said I think he'll still eat them while calling me crazy! LOL!

Unfortunately, there is still a lot of ignorance & misconception out there regarding low carb...particularly Atkins. Perfect example...my Dad went to his Dr. last week,Dr. always preaches he doesn't believe in Atkins. Dr. thought Dad's blood sugar level was a bit elevated..Dr. suggested he cut out the carbs & eat meats, veggies, salads & cheese. Ummmm...HELLO, this is ATKINS!!!

But I would guess he would suggest low fat dressing for salads and low fat cheese.Isnt this more South Beach and less Atkins? Most physicians caution against full fat cheese, milk, meat...ect.

Dad was encouraged to use oil & vinegar on salads and to eat full fat cheese.
Low fat products are full of artificial chemicals you can't even pronounce.
Fortunately, there are some well educated physicians

I now have my nieces drooling over what I make for lunch and dinner. Most times they'll ask if they can have what I'm having. Since it IS healthy, I dont mind saying "yes!". Their mother hasnt objected either. Most times it's just meat/fish and veggies anyway. A LOT better than fries

I don't know what ingredients go into low-fat cheese, but here's a list of ingredients of a typical low-fat salad dressing (Kraft Free Roka Blue Cheese Flavored Fat Free Dressing):

Water. Corn Syrup, Cultured Lowfat Buttermilk (Trivial Source of Fat and Cholesterol), Vinegar, Salt, Modified Food Starch, Contains less than 2% of Sugar, Dried, Sour Cream (Cultured Cream, Citric Acid) (Trivial Source of Fat and Cholesterol), Xanthan Gum, Lactic Acid, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Artificial Color, Phosphoric Acid With Potassium Sorbate and Calcium Disodium Edta As Preservatives, Lemon Juice Concentrate, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Natural Blue Cheese Flavor, Dried Garlic, Spice, Vitamin E Acetate, Sulfiting Agents.

Sometimes I think life was easier before I learned to read nutrition labels. It's disheartening to pick up something you *think* is good for you, then read the label and have to put it back on the shelf. That high fructose corn syrup is in EVERYTHING!!! I've finally learned to just shop product, meat, and dairy, and ignore most of the inside aisles at the grocery store.

While most people seem to associate osteoporosis with women...its also common in men as well. Natural, unprocessed cheese is a good source of protein & calcium.

Not only that corn syrup's in it, but it's the SECOND INGREDIENT LISTED!!!! That means there's LOTS of it in there!!!!

I do NOT shop in the middle of the store anymore except for decaf, dog food, and housekeeping stuff. Food that is processed and comes in boxes and cans is NOT going in my body. I am working too hard to pollute myself with that kind of crap.

If it's not food that I (theoretically) could grow or kill myself, I am just not going to eat it. And I feel like a completely different person than I did when I ate processed food.
