Default My fantastic, awesome, glorious NSV

So I had an amazingly exciting night... I am officially training for a *gasp* triathlon and I LOVE IT!!!

I went to the first clinic tonight, met some really awesome people, and I have a goal of completing a sprint triathlon this summer!!! I used to love running but then I injured my knee skiing and mostly stopped. I've been a little mopey, became inactive and gained some weight, but in January I decided that bad knee and all, I was gonna be healthy and fit. I started a little biking and swimming, and thought to myself, "I need a challenge". I signed up for this triathlon class, and I can't believe how excited I am about exercise! I ran for 30 minutes tonight, and it made my entire body feel so good!

I'm absolutely euphoric that my body can do this! I'm going to be an athlete! I have so much respect for my body tonight, and what it can accomplish. I can run! I'd forgotten how good that feels! I have a plan to be active regularly, with other active people! I can get out and do these things I've always wished I can do! Right now I feel like I could not lose another pound and still be completely satisfied. I know there will probably be days where I don't want to go swimming or biking and it will feel like such a drag... but right now I am the happiest person I know.

Thanks for reading

I am so jealous! I've always wanted to do one. Are you doing the full triathalon? The 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, 26.2 mile run?! I'm getting excited for you just picturing it. I really want to but unfortunately it's way too pricey for my blood, a decent bike would be at least $800-$1000 and I'm horrible at swimming. I suppose I'll have to stay with running! Have fun!

Your speech about loving what your body can do has officially inspired me not to eat anything I shouldn't this evening. Thanks. You rock. You go girl.

Oh wow, thanks for all the replies and support! I'm still on cloud 9 today, and all of your responses have made me even more so!

sm177 - I'm aiming for a sprint triathlon, and I have so much respect for people who can do the full ironman triathlon! The one I want to do is 1km swim, 28km bike, and 8k run. Still, anything that has running in it is way beyond what I thought I'd ever be able to do! I'll be doing the race on my "no need to steal me" student bicycle, cuz I can't afford a good one either .

janeberry - there's a local tri this summer in May that we're working towards in my clinic. It seems so soon, and I hope I'll be prepared, but even just the training feels so good!

futuresurferchick - wow, that's totally the best compliment of all! Thanks! And hurray for healthy bodies!

Wow that's amazing I wish I could feel so positively about exercise. Although I did have a slight day dream about getting really good at tae bo and going to California to train to be an instructor. Ha ha it was silly but even thinking about that is a big step for me. Congrats!

Yay, you go!

I've done two sprint triathlons... the first time shaved me down to my lowest size. The second I was about the heaviest I'd ever weighed (I trained but I also ate out of control)... I actually did slightly better the second time. Running was by far my worst event. I wasn't the fastest swimmer or biker but those legs didn't exhaust me--running did. I always felt like I was going in slow motion.

Good luck to you! And be careful with injuries! I sprained my ankle two months before my 2nd race and could really only train in the pool for a month.
