I'm new here and I was encouraged by all of you over here in the 100 club. Can I join you? I have 110lbs to loose and I'm a bit overwhelmed.
I started 3 days ago Micheal Thurmonds Body Makeover and I don't think I can do it anymore. Those of you not familiar with the program it goes a little like this. You have to determine first what your body type is and then you have to follow a very strict diet of no sodium or salt, no sugar, no wheat, and no fat and 100 oz of water. You eat 6 times a day, but only certain foods at certain times. For example my breakfast is egg whites and oatmeal (GROSS!). Now...for the last three days I've been tired, cranky and depressed and I'm not liking this feeling any longer. I even cancelled going away this weekend because I knew I couldn't eat and drink like everyone else. I know everyone will tell me it's just getting used to having no sugar and salt but people..THERE HAS GOT TO BE A BETTER WAY!! Please tell me there is. I have tried WW before and I failed that as well. Is anyone just doing this on their own? Has anyone come up with a "plan" that has worked for them with out having to be on a certain diet? I was thinking if I go lowfat, low sugar and exercise, exercise I can probably do this..after doing this body makeover.....that is a walk in the park.
What are your thoughts? I am 34 and 295, I have PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome) and the Dr. has told me it's not my fault that I am as heavy as I am (ok...I wanted to kiss him), and that I have to work 4x as harder to lose weight. Thanks for the comforting words doc.
I look forward to getting to know you and to sticking with this forum. I really need a good kick in the butt, maybe you all can oblige!
OMG!! GET YOURSELF OFF THAT INSANITY NOW!! You need to find something you can do for the rest of your life.. and I know I could NOT live that for the rest of my life!!
How long ago did you try WW?
Can you get your doc to send you to a nutritionist? (how good is your health insurance?)
Did your doc give you any eating guidelines?
I know that PCOS-ers need to try and eat a lower carb diet. There are TONS of them out there and lots of great books on Amazon.
I ask about WW because they have a new plan out that REALLY works great. of all the "paid" diets I would reccomend it the highest!! I've lost 30 lbs so far since the end of feburary. Its also a plan I can live with for the rest of my life.
Thanks so much Beth Ann!! You're right it is insanity!
Today I have made a desision (to learn how to spell..) I can do it on my own, programs don't work for me! I must say I've had a wonderful day!! I guess doing the Body Makeover (I know, I know, I only did it 3 days) made me realize that I don't have to eat yucky foods to lose weight.
I took a long walk to the park, I had a tiny bit of peanut butter on wheat bread for lunch and strawberries and I think I'm on my way!
My husband is over 350 so we both need to do this to become healthier for ourselves and our kids!
post often, ask all the questions you want. yes, it is all possible.
and you already know that it'll take work. there are many resources on 3fc, so be sure and explore.
but make this your home [the low carb ladies are also fabulous.. and that makes a good home too] because we all understand the issues with having so much weight to lose...
Atkins is an excellent plan but I recommend you go in search of a plan that allows you not to always feel hungry, keeps strength in your body, and is workable for you to live with. The path is after all a long one for us not a month or two and must be livable and as pleasent as possible. We are all here for you and know exactly how you feel and all the challeges that must be met. This and nder Misc. Clubs the low carb are my boards and my greatest Blessings. Post often and know it will take time but oh how worth it , it is!!!!!!!
Pam
You're *SOOOO* right about the insanity... IMHO... a lifestyle change has no place for insanity. It seems like the more educated you are about certain factors of your life, the more apt you are to succeed. I don't believe that there is room for insanity in any "program". If you are starving... then you're not where you should be. Losing weight should not include starvation. Keeping weight off requires us all to learn about food. Learn what parts of nutrition help us... and learning about the things that only bring us back down.
I've heard great things about the new WW plan. But for *ME*, it's just not a possibility to get to meetings, and involve myself the way I would want to. My sister signed up just to get the information She is now within 6# of her high school cheerleading days. She combined knowledge from the WW program, got herself to the gym, implemented a "menu" that she follows quite well at home... she's an inspiration to me!!!
For me... I know that I am a carb junkie. That's what I love.... carbs, carbs, carbs. So I know that I need to find a way to control the carb cravings. That's what I'm working on. I am also a Diet Coke (with caffeine) addict. So, I have made a very conscious effort to cut that out of my diet. If I drink the DC, I will *NOT* get the water intake. I could go DAYS without water. So I am starting off my day with water, water, water!!!
Welcome to the 100# Club!! It is a wonderful, supportive group!!!
Well as for your question, I'm not sure how many carbs is ok on a low carb diet, but I know that you don't usually count fat grams. I just started on the summersize diet. The Atkins is to strict for me.
I was doing the slim fast diet, that worked ok, but I eat so many carbs, I think that is the reason why I didn't loose much weight. So I am going to try to up my protien and see what happens.
Good luck to you, and you picked a great place to post.
I also have PCOS, and first found 3FC when I was diagnosed. It's a wonderful place with loads of support and inspiration.
No crazy or fad "diet or program" is going to work for you. Educate yourself on PCOS. That is the most important thing you can do to help yourself. Understand everything about it. Understand how it works, what happens to your body, what's happening. Understand what certain foods do to you. Understand it all, and then you will see why there is only one way that you can eat to become healthy and strong, and yes, thinner.
And I promise, you will feel better. You will improve the PCOS symptoms.
It's not easy, believe me. But it's worth it. You're worth it. We all are.
I have tons of PCOS sites on the web if your interested. I can pm you them.
welcome to the group. I am among many here that do low carb but the most important thing is to follow what you can live with. there are many low carb diests out there I follow PP which i feel is good but i think i am a bit more liberal with my carbs than many on their site. I usually get in about 50 or so carbs daily but you do not limit your fats so much on the low carbs. I do watch that i am not totally pigging out with fats but i do enjoy my foods.
