S/C/G: Unsure....afraid of the scale

Height: 5"10'

Wink Hello fellow losers!!

Hey everyone!
I'm brand new to this site and I've just recently started watching my weight. But let me tell you, I have A LOT to lose! I don't know how much I weigh....I'm afraid of the scale. People keep telling me to weigh myself because it will provide motivation, however from previous experiences I know that when I begin to plateau, I will get discouraged. So far I'm going on how my clothes feel, lol. What do you think?

I'm trying out the WW Flex Program. Luckily for me, I have 2 ladies at work that I eat with everyday that have started the program as well. I'm not point savvy enough yet to have enough satisfying foods in a day, soooo....one of my "lunch buddies" has been designated the food maker and brings us delicious breakfast and lunches for us! How lucky! It's great for me, and she has said that it helps her too because she HAS to make the food for us, lol. I know that this sounds awfully lazy of me, and maybe it is, but so far it's working and it has been surprisingly easy for the 3 of us.

I hope to get to know a bunch of people on here so that I have the support at home that I get at work. Since I have to fend for myself for dinners and wknds!!

I've gone on diets before and watched my weight before, but I'm feeling really good about it this time.

Hi there Shani!

It's all about what works for you. However. I do say that you may regret not weighing yourself to know your starting weight. So even getting on the scale just to know now, and then comparing months down the road may be a positive thing. I had a lot to lose, too, and I will warn that depending on how much you have to lose it could take 50 lbs or more for clothes to show a difference. (As it did for me) But, once again, it's all about what's good for you.

I'm a WW member, so welcome! Check out the WW section under Diet Central. You may come up with some great meal ideas for yourself and for the ladies at work. Who knows? You might be able to surprise them with a dish!

Jump into any thread where you feel comfortable. Post and keep us all updated. We all want to support you as you get healthier!

Hi Shani,

I, too, have a poor relationship with the scale. Many times in the past the numbers have thrown me off track of losing the weight. I did weigh myself the first day just so I would know where I was starting at, but I haven't weighed myself since, and it's been 2 months. I am going by how my clothes fit and how I feel, also. The sizes are changing, I feel great and have no desire yet to step on that scale. When the time is right to see what the numbers say, I'll know. But for now......I'm not going to do it. Good luck on your journey, stay positive and know that you and all the rest of us can do this!

Hey, I was like you. I couldn't bring myself to get on the scale until I was well into my weight loss journey--maybe 4 or 6 weeks into it. I discovered my starting weight because of the paperwork that was submitted last Spring to get additional life insurance. A nurse was sent to the house and I remember specifically asking her to NOT tell me what the number was.

Thanks for backing me up on the "no scale" theory I still haven't gotten on the scale, but yes I do agree that I should do it to get a starting weight.

I'm going by my clothes and have noticed that my pants have been falling down, lol!! I guess I shouldn't have bought new clothes right before I started WW!!
This is about the billionth time that I've tried to lose weight, but I'm positive that this time it's going to work. I'm feeling good about the way I'm doing it, I have a lot of support and already feel better about myself. Good luck to you all and as SisuInWI said "Stay positive and know that you can do this!!!" Positivity is the key! Believe in yourself. It might take some time if you aren't used to doing that, but it's soooo important, it's taken me a LONG time to realize that. LET THE FAT GO!
