Just for giggles...how often should I be getting a haircut/pedicure???
I love the feeling of getting my hair cut and styled. I also love to get a pedicure. We are very tight on money so right now I only get it done about twice a year. I have even taught myself how to cut my kids hair to save on money. I just feel guilty spending the money to get my hair done when I don't even take my kids in. I wish I could get a haircut every 3 or 4 months but feel that is too much when we live paycheck to paycheck....I just don't have the patience to sit and straighten or curl my hair or put on make up. I wish I could learn how to be more patient to learn how to pamper myself a little more. Any tips on self pampering????
The kids don't need a fancy haircut. A haircut for a woman is a totally different matter. So don't feel guilty about cutting the kids' hair. Two totally different animals
I only get professional pedicures when I go on vacation to the caribbean.
However, I do give myself pedicures all the time. Just buy a pumice stone from walmart, some sexy nail polish, and your all set. Of course your feet don't look as good as they do when you get them done in a salon (mostly because I paint nails as if I have parkinsons disease). But it does the trick (and saves me $30)
I don't think there's any "should" about it. Only you can decide the answer. Only you know how much stretch or wiggle room you have in your budget, and what you can sacrifice and whether you're willing and able to make the trade-off. I don't believe in moms putting their needs and wants dead last. I think it teaches kids that what mom wants and needs isn't important. Would your kids even appreciate a salon haircut more than a home haircut, anyway? I was in high school before I even wanted a hair salon haircut, because my mom cut hair a lot faster than in the "boring" salon. And even in highschool, it wasn't about being "pampered," it was about getting the haircut I wanted, not the haircut mom wanted.
I've always loved Beauty Schools for budget pampering. Often the prices are less than half what a comparable quality hair salon would charge. And, I've found the quality of the services to be very comparable to mid-priced salons. The main difference, is that students are sometimes much slower (their skills are usually better than their confidence so they take more time, and sometimes need to get a teacher to come and inspect each stage in the process), but since I find the process relaxing, taking longer isn't necessarily a "down side," to me. Especially since "customer service," is one of the skills the students are being taught and tested on, they often are more polite than licensed stylists (in my experience).
I get my hair done every 6 weeks, but only cut, I've always had pretty long hair and I only get basic cuts so it doesn't cost a huge deal. Manicures and pedicures I do at home so they're really cost free - And I do those whenever I feel like
There is no "should". Just go when you can afford it.
I get a haircut every 6 weeks but I keep my hair very short. It is quite fine so a good haircut is a total must for me because nothing drags me down like a bad hair day. I don't smoke and 3 bottles of wine in a year hardly count as drinking, plus I need to look presentable at work (although I don't meet any customers). But it is really important to me to have a good haircut - just like the L'Oreal's commercial say it - because I am worth it.
On the other hand, I do my own manicure and I often get compliments on it (people think it was a professional job) so I must be doing something right. I don't use gel nails or any other stuff (I don't even know the proper terms LOL) so it's not difficult to do. I also do my own pedicures and although I would like to have a salon pedicure (especially in summer) I often decide the money is better spent elsewhere. But I think give myself quite decent pedicures as well, so it is no biggie.
I would not worry about not taking your kids to a salon for a haircut. I don't think they need it as much as you do and if you can do it yourself, why spend money on it? The money will be definitely better spent on your own haircut.
The kids are getting there hair done, by you ! Seems sensible to me. Is there a beauty college near you? Work is done by students and usually very well done and much cheaper. My curly haired son once got a free haircut by agreeing to let a student cut it. He said it was the best haircut he ever had.

That's a great idea!. Beauty schools have the best deals. Just before summer I got my hair cut for free at the Tony and Guy Academy here in London. At the beauty school I use to go in LA to they charged $2 for hair cuts and $7 for pedicures and manicures. Haircolour was $10. There was even one school that used Dermalogica products for facials... they were $20. Have a look around to see what's in your area.
uhm, i only cut my hair once/twice per year. I don't go more since i like long hair style.
And i go to salon to "permanent" straighten my hair once per year as well. It's not really permanent but it keeps my hair totally straight for about a year or two.
I get my nails done about once a month. That is if i would like too. But one time i had problem with nail polish and it kind of ruined my nail for a while so for now, i'm pretty much stay away from them.
How often is too much?
i must confess, ive never had a pedicure :O
