So here I am at work, at 5:22pm and my normal shift ends at 5, but because of company cut backs, I had to work the 10:30-7:00 shift. I am an Administrative Assistant of sales, but again, due to cut backs, I have to work in our call center and be team player. I hate taking sales calls!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't have to do this when the economy was doing well, but so many people here are packing it in and we are not replacing any of them.

I have planned a weeks vacation for the end of October and I do not want to mess that up, therefore I can not start my job search until after that time, but I might as well be locked up in a straight jacket because these customers are driving me crazy. I can not tell you where I work, because the new company handbook states that if I tell you, I have to tell them I posted it and I am not looking to break any rules.

I have been told if I just push though, I will be rewarded. So here is my question; do i stick it out to see what happens or do I get a new job?

Ahhh, the dreaded vacation clause. I say stick with it, make the best of use of the scenerip Use taking sales calls to your advantage. You learn something from every task you do, this is just another thing to add to your resume when you start looking for a new job. (And the team player looks good as a strength as well ) Just be sure not to whine or complain about it vocally (even if it sucks beyond all suckiness) It'll be good for you in the end (pun intended) Good luck! And don't get too frustrated!!!

Oh..and just a thought...I'd still start looking now for that new job. It wouldn't hurt.

My opinion is stick with it for awhile longer simply because of the economy. If you find a new job and they for some reason have to start laying people off the most recently hired will be the first to be laid off. So stick with it for a bit longer.

Yes Yes Yes, use this to your advantage. Each situation can teach us something, rather that be about other people or our selves. Perception and attitude can make or break your opportunity to learn. Look for the opportunities to learn something from it and whatever you do try some positive self talk. Challenge yourself, maybe today you say I am going to make one nasty, mean customer happy.

i also work in a call center and have been told things like- you will be rewarded later. it's a lie! they don't reward people- call centers know that they can hire anyone and if they ever have the need can do a cattle call and get more people. it sucks, but it's true. i've been doing MANDATORY overtime for a YEAR! with no compensation other then the extra hours on my paycheck. I'm in the same spot as you are right now- my vacation is end of November... but the thought of working there a moment longer some days makes me think suicide sounds pretty good. Tough it out if you can - but keep an eye out for a new job too. That's what I'm doing. If I haven't found one by then, well a week off is a good time to look seriously for a new job.

That's what I have been doing. Just seeing the kinds of jobs I might be interested that are in my area. I am so glad someone else gets it. I would not feel this way if I had actually been hired as a sales person, but I was not. I was told "when it's busy, we might ask you to log in to help clear any waiting calls". Fine, but after 2 years, but job is more sales based and last admin duties. I am not going anywhere on a vacation from work, so that is actually going to be my time to start setting up interviews. I am looking more medical based since I am pretty sure people are still going to need doctors in my lifetime.
