Smile Hello From a newbie

Hey everyone my name is Angela and today I started my weight loss journey after having a terrible day with my 2 yr old seeing how much I actually weighed. I went to a museum with him and they had one of those machines where it tells you how much you weigh on earth and the moon lol Yeah well needless to say Im lucky i made it out without sobbing. My current weight is 444 and it just kills me to write that.

I have a couple questions. I am borerline diabetic as I test my sugars myself and I see them creeping up lately and I have hypo which I have to get tested again as well in a couple weeks.

I plan on doing 5-6 small meals a day as thats what works for me in the past as well as eating 2200.

My question is I am interested in adding a protein shake for a meal or snack just not sure which one would be best any leads in a good direction would be great.

I also started doing my walking dvd last week and went from only being able to do 5 minutes to 15 minutes as of yesterday felt good to. I look forward to making new friends and getting healthy with all of you

Welcome to the forum, bodybuilding.com has a great selection of Optimum 100% Whey Protein shakes (gold standard). I recommend the cookies and cream

Hey JrsyGirl, this is Brandy. You know what, I just started using the protein shakes like 3 days ago, but I use them because i am a vegetarian, so I would think that if you had your proper portion of meat a day then there would be no need for protein shakes, I guess unless you would be using them for meal replacements. I got a meijers brand and it is nothing nice about it. When I go home, I'll write down the brand and send it to you tommorrow, but I plan to investigate some other brands bc the one I have is not really that good. So whatever I come up with I will definitely send the names to you. Oh and Congrats on getting started. Hope those DVD's work out!

I won't bother giving brands because I've noticed there's quite a difference between the US and Canada. I tend to use them to keep my protein levels up and sometimes my hunger at bay. I would avoid using them too much as a meal replacement as they just don't provide enough bulk to replace real food. However I find that a protein shake and a piece of fruit in the late evening keep me away from the late night snacking I used to do.

Oh, and hello, and

One unsolicited piece of advice though. If you don't have a scale at home that will give you a weight (I didn't when I started) try to find one that does. Knowing progress (good and bad) is key to continuing on. I know for years I pretended I was 'just a little over' the 330 max on my home scale.

Welcome Angela!

Sorry I can't help you with protein supplements. I find them all horrid tasting no matter what I did to them. I spent lots of money on them and never could find one palatable for the calories.

Congrats on walking and starting a new way of life!! This is a great group of folks. Come join us on the weekly thread and tell us more about yourself.

Hugs and Luv,
Ratkity

Welcome to 3FC. I wish you great success at becoming healthy.

Even though I am a long way from my goal, here are a few things that have helped me get started and stay motivated.

1. If you have a higher power, be it God, Allah, or Buddha...Pray. If not, meditate. Please in the morning, and thank you at night. Don't forget the Thank yous. They are very important.

2. Diet cookies are still cookies. If you are going to eat one, eat a real one. Buy one at the bakery, and enjoy it as a part of your daily plan. Don't get suckered to make the fat cats of the diet industry richer.

3. Don't be a tight wad. Fresh fruit and vegetables cost more than a box of ho-hos. Spend the extra money on a juicy box of strawberries, you are worth it!
