This group is for those dealing with the challenges of having a significant amount of weight to lose and being fit which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in.
Actually I started the two threads and then went off to do a little more time on the treadmill. I should have started them at 8am, but I forget what I wandered off to do then. It's been a surprisingly busy day. I was looking for raspberry canes (purple royalty) and called three garden centers. Only one kept that variety and when I said I was coming in the afternoon I could tell that she didn't want to promise they would still be there. So got dressed quickly and out I went. It was a good thing since there were really only 5 decent looking ones (and I bought 4). I made a mistake and took my mother with me, so we came home with another rhubarb plant, and a gorgeous hanging basket with a chenille plant in it. Okay, I talked her into the hanging basket, but if I'd been by myself I wouldn't have bought it. The two of us are dangerous in a garden center.
So I came home, did my weight stuff, some treadmill time, and now I'm off to plant them (and maybe have a swim). I'll check in later and try and do some personals from last week.
Hey everyone. Back on the gardening topic...I've also been heard that if you take Irish Spring Soap, cut it up and put it out (like in pieces of pantyhose or something) that it will repell deer. Don't know about that, but that's what I was told.
Hi everyone, Have you heard that saying 'when it rains it pours" well, it has poured all over me the last couple of days. Sheesh. Yesterday I had the cleaning woman in and she and I did a lot of spring type cleaning. Today we are messing it all up big time. Our side by side fridge decided to go on the blink, so Dh is working on that. He is swapping it out for the one we keep in the garage for now. Needless to say it has to be cleaned up good, and the one leaving the kitchen is leaving a nice soggy mess of towels and wet rugs! It will take me all afternoon to sort and put things back in place in the other fridge and clean up this mess. Anybody want to help?
I am just hiding for a few minutes to check in and see how all of you are doing. I guess I had better get back out there and face the mess.
The exchange of refridgerators turned into a big old mess. The fridge we took out was so large and heavy we couldn't take it through the side door or the back door, so it had to go out the front door. Down a hallway with hardwood flooring, oh yeah, ruined floor! It (the hand trucks) made a rut on both sides. Also scratched up the hardwood flooring in the kitchen, bah! Phooey! I could just scream! On top of that my Dh ran into the wall and made a hole in that. Okay enough already!
No, I am not through yet, We had to have the table and chairs sent back to the store because it wasn't put together right and couldn't be fixed. When you sat down you had to straddle the base leg the way it was put together and if you turned it so that your feet were in between the way they should be the opening in the table was going diagonal, yikes what a mess. They tried to turn it around but the bolts were in the wrong place! Who builds this furniture anyway? It was a pretty set but who wants to sit with a foot on each side of a rather wide base leg. You should have heard me trying to explain what was wrong to the store. LOL! I bet they thought I had lost my mind, and I just about did trying to make them understand. I think the salesman just finally gave up and had them pick it up. Now I have to go back and try to find a replacement. UGH!
What a week! I hope all of you are having an easier time than that. Oh, and in the meantime we are eating on our card table. LOL! We have a formal dining room, but I have always hated eating in there and will do pretty much anything to avoid it. I like eating in the kitchen.
Well chickies that is about it for now. Have a wonderful weekend. Ruth
Ruth, how awful about your furniture and refrig. Now it is going to cost more money to refinish your floors. Yuck. Hope you find just the table you need.
Yesterday, I sang with my senior choral group at our center - several of us had solos. I used to do a lot of musical comedy theater but quit about 10 years ago as I thought no one wanted to hear me sing any more. Anyway, I found this group about a month or so ago and have been having such a good time. We perform twice a year, and yesterday was one of the times. I sang "My Funny Valentine". Rehearsals sounded horrid, but once I had an audience, it came out quite well. Our director who has wonderful resume in teaching choral music at Pepperdine for 35 years, said our group is the best one she has had in directing the chorus at the senior center for the past 14 years. She's elderly but still sharp as a tack. And still teaches voice.
But I ate the lunch at the center - yuck. Totally off the plan - chicken in gravy with rice, roll with butter, a teaspoon of over-nuked veggies and a big piece of white cake. I've never had any desire to eat there, and now I know I never will. I scraped some of the gravy off the chicken and ate the veggies and, as I was still hungry, ate some of the cake, and today, my tummy is letting me know that was not a good idea.
Today, I drive across L.A. to meet a friend for lunch - we are doing barbeque so I know I will find good food to eat.
Hey everyone! Quick post, because I'm off work for a few days and doing NOTHING and loving every minute of it.
Ruth, talk about furniture disasters! Gosh that's awful about the floor.
Kathleen, I am far too shy to sing in front of people. I won't even do drunken karaoke! I envy people who can. Thing is, I really don't have a bad voice, I'm just to self-concious. I have a work-friend who does all kinds of community theater - being in a play is, however, on my list of things to do before I die. (Yes, I have an actual list.)
I'm gonna run. Got things to do that involve nothing but pleasing myself!
hi all! I'm in my busiest time of the year, so I'm going to be scarce here for a while longer. Work is really busy and my eating is definitely off, but I'm reminding myself that this craziness is temporary, and that I can get back on track in a few weeks. I won't gain back 100 pounds in that time (though many of my clothes are already tight.)
Good morning. Another gray day here in So. Calif. But the heat is supposed to start up on Wednesday. I'll finally have a chance to try out my new air conditioner then.,
Weight is up and down, and back up again. Between the lousy food at the senior center and apparently too much food yesterday, it is back up. But I'll watch it and start eating more veggies, and maybe it will drop back down soon. With my thyroid problems and lousy metabolism, I'm lucky to have dropped as much as I have. I have no intention of stopping as I do feel better.
Today, I go watch girls' soccer - my DGD plays two games - should be fun. Their game is in the western part of the San Fernando Valley which a lot closer for me than my son and DGD. My DGS and his mom will be at a game near their home in Orange County.
Time to get busy and get ready to get on the road. Have a lovely day.
Glad to see there's still a few of the old-timers around.
No, I'm sorry to say I'm not back, just checking in to see what's up and grab a couple of recipes. Not to mention, wish everyone a BIG HappyMother'sDay!
Life here is still very hectic. #1 Son just changed jobs and hates the new one. #2 Son is laid off for the second time in two years. Honey lost his job a couple of months ago and was given the option to take on a new position, which he did so as not to be laid off. The economy here in Michigan SUCKS!!!
The last couple of weeks my weightloss efforts have been better. I'm down over this past two weeks and working on another loss. The starting over.....again.....is a pain, but I guess it's better than the alternative.
Well girls, I'm off again. Must finish cleaning as I'm having a house full tomorrow for Mom's Day.
Even when I'm not here I think of you often and Love ya bunches!
Sorry to hear about hubby's job, Thin... hang in there, all of you!
Heather... I feel for you! School is out for me. I have stuff to do yet... 3 grad students I'm supervising, and lots of writing to do.... but no classes is a good feeling. You hang in, too.
My weight loss has been going nowhere. I check in here occasionally as a way to remind myself that this is something I'm supposed to be doing. Next week I want to start posting daily since I know accountability helps me.
Happy Mother's day. It's another gray day here in So. Calif. But the heat is coming back around the middle of the week, so I'll enjoy it while I can.
The 2 soccer games yesterday turned out to be just one. Our team played the second best girls' team in So. Calif. Our kids were intimidated by the label of them being second best, so panicked a little, but we basically held our own. Our team is a level below that team. We lost 2-1 because they got flustered and their regular coach was coaching another team somewhere else. But they realized that they are as good as the other team as long as they just play and forget the label.
My son and his family are coming by this morning to take me to lunch and to a movie - Made of Honor. They they will go on to my DIL's parents' place for Chinese dinner at a big restaurant in Monterey Park with all her family.
My weight is starting back down today - I am still about 1-1/2 lbs. heavier than I was earlier in the week, but it will drop as, other than lunch, I don't plan to eat badly for the next few days.
Time to clean a bit before my kids get here. Have a lovely day.
