Default 300+ And Getting Fit After 40 #156

This thread is a sub-set of the 300+ thread.

This group is for those dealing with the challenges of having a significant amount of weight to lose and being fit which becomes harder after age 40. If you're an old or new friend and not over 40 and feel this is the place to post, jump right in.

Morning, chickies! We have been quiet, huh?

I'm trying to get my groove back. May is my crazy month and I need to plan plan plan. I'm good to go for the week foodwise, at least. Now I need to stick to the plan -- AND get the exercise in!

Morning ladies,

I've been doing a lot of thinking about whether we should continue with our thread or not. We seem to have evolved into very sporadic posters and I'm not sure we're really encouraging each other or helping each other get more fit. Maybe we should remerge with the bigger group. I have joined the Biggest Loser challenge group and will be posting over there. But I've come to the conclusion that I will not be posted daily because I really want to focus on keeping caught up around the place.

What do you all think? Are we still helping each other and you want to continue as a separate group?

I know I haven't been good about posting every day, but I think I'd miss you all terribly if I didn't have this thread to come to. Weekends are really bad for me. I almost never get on the computer at all on the weekends. And Spring and Summer I just have so much going on thru June at least that I don't get to posting like I ought. But I do check in and see who's posted when.

Ruth, I'm glad to see you've found something that works for you. I've thought South Beach looks interesting. Perhaps carb junkie me should give it a try? No, probably not, like I said - carb junkie here. But then again, maybe that's why I never lose anymore????

So little said and I have to run. I have work today, SCA tonight - we're putting on a feast - so it's run home, heat up food, change and run right back out.

Good morning.

I'd hate to see this thread go. I am fairly new but I enjoy reading how others are doing, especially when we have a long way to go to get svelt again.

I have had my South Beach diet book for years but never thought I would ever be able to do the plan. Phase I was too strict and I couldn't see how i could lose with the Phase II program. So, I started with Atkins a month ago, but it didn't agree with me - too much fat and not enough carbs. So, a week ago, I switched to SB and am I ever glad. My body is so happy on this. I get just a few carbs, but it is enough, and I get some fats, but not like I did on Atkins. I really feel like maybe I can do this this time. I've lost like 3 lbs in the past week and I don't feel deprived.

Here in So. Calif, we've had a bad heat wave - in the 100's - so it has been hard to move. My air conditioner went out a month or so ago, so I have had to use a fan and just sit and vegetate to get through the day. Repairman coming tomorrow, thank goodness.

Today, I will run errands during the worst part of the heat today so I can get a break from it. My poor dog has done nothing but lay around and sleep all day - he has no energy to even play when it is this hot.

Take care.

Okay, we'll keep it going. We'll just post when we can and all know that we're just a quieter group.

to all!

I'm likely to be a little quieter as well, but I will stop in every few days. I'm like Terri, joined in the Biggest Loser Challenge this time as well. The outside work will start to increase, but I like the... ummm... maturity of the thread. I do have a tendency to overextend myself at times, but will try not to this summer.

Our beautiful weather is gone today. We've really been so lucky this spring, so it was to be expected. We're mid-40s today and most of the day it's been raining and/or overcast. The sky is finally clearing up a little although I understand it will likely be a week before we see even slightly warmer weather. Oh well, it will leave me some time to catch up on indoors tasks I suppose!

Take care everyone and hope you're having a good start to the week.

I'm up for whatever people want. Sometimes I like the quieter moving thread -- the main one is so busy! But then sometimes I do think it's dying a little here and that's sad.

As the mod, I respect whatever you all want to do. Don't worry I'm going to push you to end it if people still want to keep it going.

As for me... I am trying to get myself back on track and STAY there. I have my food pretty well planned out for the week. That's such a big part of success for me. For the past few weeks I've either been travelling, trying not to buy food in preparation for traveling (and to save some $), or not buying food because we didn't have time AFTER travelling. Just shovelling whatever's available does NOT help me succeed.

I fell far behind in my exercise minutes, but if I get some time in tomorrow, I will make my goal (I have my trainer on Wednesday). At this point it's not even about losing the 5 pounds I've gained, but just not gaining any more!! May is my crazy month.

Hi gals,

I'm thrilled to have another loss this week. Four weeks in a row! I'm now down 10 pounds since starting the Biggest Loser challenge at the Fitness Center. I am really feeling the difference in how my clothes are fitting.

I'm headed off to bed and a good night's sleep.

to all!

I am happy to see that everyone made it back to touch base. I would miss all of you so much if this thread died. I would go looking for you in the other threads, of course!

I haven't been here as much lately because of the things that have been going on with me. The eye surgery requires a lot of time in putting drops in the eye and going for the eye exams to make sure everything is going the way it should. I am due for surgery again tomorrow to take care of the other eye. I probably won't be back here for a few days.

Terri, Yipee for you! That is great. I am glad you are feeling so upbeat. It does feel good when we manage to stick to plan and actually lose weight.

Lilion, slow down and breathe. Much too busy. I would love to be the one that had lost the weight, but that wasn't me. LOL! We have a new poster with the same avatar. I don't do SB, but then maybe I should!

Anne, I found the table and chairs, but I don't like them. LOL! The chairs are NOT comfortable at all. It is a beautiful Oak set, well made, but not my old buddy. the most difficult thing is that the chairs don't turn. With the problems I was having with my leg that has been a big ouchie! Oh well, I will get used to the change.

Krosmon, Welcome! I am glad to see another "senior" poster. We know how difficult it is to lose weight after menopause don't we? I, too, tried Atkins at one time. I lost weight but I did not feel well on that diet. I don't think putting yourself in ketosis is the best thing for the body anyway. Good luck with SB.

Heather, you have done so well with your weight loss and exercise in the past. Just don't let that old food craving get to you now. You look wonderful and I am betting you feel the same way. I have lost a whole person twice in my lifetime and let myself gain it back. Not so smart! It wasn't planned that is for sure.

Val, are you out there? I hate it when we lose touch with people. We have so many that have joined and then just disappeared. I guess they think we won't notice or remember them, but I often wonder what has happened to some of them.

That is it for now. See you again when my eye is good enough to see through. LOL! Take care, Ruth

Ruth -- Good luck with the surgery! And thanks for the words of wisdom. I am terrified of gaining it all back!

Last night I took care of myself and read a book and went to bed early. Felt great. Course, the grading is piling up...

Good Morning Ladies!

It's a beautiful, COLD, day in Mid-MO! It was 32 this morning!!! Brrrrrr. What happened to spring? At least it didn't frost hard enough to kill the veggies - although the mole in my garden is doing a good enough job of that! Darn nasty little beast! I have a 8x4 raised bed garden and he ignores the entire lawn to burrow there!!! I went and looked this morning and there were TWO holes where he's stuck his nasty little head out!!! I've GOT to get rid of him!

Ruth: Oops! I guess our newcomer does have the same avatar! Isn't is funny how you just start associating people with their "pictures"? I'm keeping good thoughts in mind for you and your eye problems! :

Kathleen: Congrats to YOU on the loss and on finding South Beach. And to the thread!

Terri: You GO girl! You are doing great! 10 lbs down!

I'm plodding along. Not losing. Not gaining. (Thank GOD!) But not losing. And I have no one to blame but myself. I'm still having a hard time recommiting, even though I really need and want to get those darn lbs off I regained and get into my new clothes! I have stuff I never wore because I bought summer clothes in the fall and now they are too tight! I've just GOT to stay on track!

Yesterday, my medieval group had a "mock feast". I say "mock" but there ended up being plenty of food for everyone - it was just supposed to be small samples, but not everyone showed up we expected. It was lovely and not toooooo fattening. I'd say I actually did pretty good food-wise. Helped that I was serving and not just sitting and eating, so I was on my feet for a couple hours too. This weekend we're supposed to do a camping event. Hopefully my DH will get off work and the weather will hold. Say a little prayer to the weather gods for me!!!

Got to run! Later ladies!

Good morning, everyone.

Around here, it is a good morning. Weather is cooler and the fire in the mountains is almost under control so there is not so much smoke in the air. People are moving back into their homes and there were no homes lost.

And - I lost another pound - One more pound and I'll be under the dreaded 300 lb. mark. Not too bad for an old broad with health issues. Maybe some of the issues will disappear once the weight falls off.

Ruth, sorry about the duplicate avatar, but us great minds think alike. We're both cherubs, and if you don't believe us, ask us.

Today, the repairman is coming to fix my window air conditioner so I can deal with the heat wave - which is over for now but coming back soon. We've had a couple really hot spells - unusual for this early in the season. We'll probably have a hot summer. I was always working before so the heat didn't get to me, but now that I am unemployed, it ain't fun.

Thanks for your lovely welcomes. It is nice to talk to people with the same interests in getting thin and healthy.

Take care.

Hi gals,

Not much happening here. I took yesterday afternoon off and spent it all outside. It was wonderful. I'm noticing this year how much easier doing the trim work with the string mower is on my upper body. I need to get back to doing the PUSH.tv workouts to regain muscle tone in the upperbody and core group. That will be my goal for May.

Wish I could stay home today too! The birds are singing and it sounds so quiet and peaceful.

Kathleen - on your loss. Keep working at it and get out of the 3's!

Lilion - We have a few mole issues too. Your garden is ahead of mine. Tonight is garden night for sure.

Ruth - for the eye surgery. Get better soon and get back here more often!

Heather - I'm sure your students would love for you to take care of yourself much better and not assign them so much work that you have to grade! Sometimes you have to go back to the basics to get yourself refocused when life gets too crazy. I told DH that I am finally accepting that to get the weight off, I have to exercise hard, and I will have to keep it up in order to keep it off. So workout time has to be a priority.

Anne - Keep up all the great work. You're doing great with all your workout time.

Valerie, Bearcub, and others - where are you and how are you doing? We miss you!

to all!

Good Morning Ladies!

It's just beautiful here today! Sunny, nice cool breeze, and should be 77 today! Of course, it's supposed to rain tomorrow, but that's Missouri for you.

I was looking at my lawn when I walked the dog today. HORRIBLE! I haven't been able to put down any Weed & Feed because it keeps raining, but I don't want to feed the whole lawn I've decided...where there is grass it's over ankle high and we mowed last week. The rain is making it grow like crazy! But we still have more weeds than grass I swear. Maybe I'll get at least the back mowed tonight.

My DH took a pitchfork to the garden yesterday. He thinks he can scare the mole into moving to a different area if he repeatedly stabs thru the soil with sharp, pointy things. The mole is probably just happy for the air flow. My peas are looking good and what lettuce and spinach made it are doing okay too. The turnips are up like crazy - nothing kills them. The carrots - well, the less said about them the better. I need to figure out what to put in the rest of the space now. I need fairly low-growing stuff.

We have two ladies here retiring, a hearing officer and a clerk. We had a lunch out for them yesterday so food wasn't great, and then, of course, there was cake. Every celebration has food, you know.

Still, I'm hoping for the best with this weeks WI. We'll see.

I was supposed to go camping this weekend. The medieval stuff again. I don't really know if we are or not though. DH has to work Saturday (graveyard shift as always) which puts a damper on things. I still have to think about that.

Well all, I better go. Time's a wasting and it's about time to work!
