my husband is willing to try to do this diet with me but he works construction
and needs a portable ,stick to your ribs lunch. If I send a salad for his lunch
he will not stick to this diet. Any ideas would be great.
Also I thought if I occasionally could cook something for dinner that would work for lunch it would make things easier.
I have been brown bagging it since on my new diet. I like to bring a ham and turkey sandwich on whole grain bread, with no mayo, but mustard is okay. I also bring hard boiled eggs, string cheese-reduced fat- or cottage cheese-reduced fat-all nice protein food that helps keep me full.
On the side, I will have carrot sticks, V-8 or tomato juice, an apple, or one of those handy fruit cups they have now.
Just a few ideas of what has worked for me. I have to have some protein for lunch or I will be ravenous and more likely to cheat!
I don't eat all of these every day-just some of the variety of things I take, of course.
Nancy, sandwiches won't work on Core since your hubby will run out of WPA's pretty darned quickly. Of course, he probably earns lots of AP's with his job so maybe he can afford a sandwich every day. I'd stay away from processed lunch meat though since they are very costly in points and really aren't good for him. Leftovers are my Core staple. You might consider making extra chicken breasts and such at dinner time to give to him on a sandwich.
I survived on dinner leftovers but I worked in an office and had access to a microwave. Soup is another big Core lunch as are salads and omelets for me. I'd be tempted to let him have the healthiest sandwich I could come up with at lunch and be Core the rest of the day. JMHO!
That is what I am thinking. Getting really good whole grain bread and letting
him use points at lunch for the sandwich. Also maybe some whole grain tortilla wraps and again using points for them.
I don't know the difference in wpa and ap's.
Joseph's makes a rectangular shaped wrap that has flax, oat, etc and is only 1 point.
I'd go with sandwiches too. They are always the easiest, especially if he doesn't necessarily have access to a fridge (my DH sometimes does not). On the side you can do cut up veggies, fruit.... I'm not sure what else is core since I am a flexer! If he has access to a fridge, you can include yogurt (right?) or skim milk. Cheese (string or regular) is a good side too.
Weekly Points Allowance = WPA's. Everyone on Core gets 35 a week.
AP's = Activity Points. You get a certain amount based on the your weight, the amount of time you exercise, and the level of activity. You use the slide rule given out by WW to calculate these. They must be used in the day that you earn them.
Thanks everybody!!! I thought his lunches would be hard to plan but
I'm thinking sandwiches, eggs(he loves these),string cheese, fruit,
FF/sugar free pudding.
Question??? In the store today I could not find pudding cups that are fat free and sugar free. If I make the sugar free pudding with skim milk it
would be core wouldn't it?? I am thinking we can make some at night
and he can pack a serving at lunch.
He takes a cooler so keeping it cold will not be a problem.
There are no Core pre-packaged pudding cups. If you make it yourself from the instant SF box with skim milk then it's Core. Those little tupperware snack cups fit one serving perfectly. There are 4 in a package and the box of pudding fits.
I'm a Lifetimer and my daughter who is a freshman is doing CORE with me. We were doing FLEX but switched to CORE. Loss is slow but she seems to prefer the break from tracking everything. Brown bagging it is her only option for school M-F so we have come up with a way that she only has to spend 3 points. We use a whole wheat pita made by Western Bagel, it is called an Alternative Pita ( my COSTCO has them) we load it up with meats we cook from dinner the night before (chicken, turkey, pork roast or tuna with FF mayo) we use mustard. Recently she changed to just half the pita (it's big) and has me put double the meat and that saves her 1/2 point. Chips are important to her so she uses two points on baked chips, apple sauce cup - no sugar added - she brings a packet of splenda to stir in, crystal light stir in with her water and a big bag of carrots, mini sweet peppers, and pea pods. For snack in the morning, she brings a sliced apple and then for a dip she brings our very favorite invention: Using two pints of 0% greek style yogurt (Get it at Trader Joe's) or can use 0% FAGE yogurt we blend in with a hand mixer one package of sf/ff lemon pudding mix. It makes the yogurt even a little thicker and it is fabulous and all CORE. She says she estimates she only eats half her lunch because all the kids ask her for bites of her snack and lunch - since no body else brings homemade lunches or at least no body brings a good one. A cute thing too that has nothing to do with WW is that her sister is off to college and her sister is a naturally thin girl who was homecoming queen at the school last year - very popular. To stay connected with her sister, before leaving to college out of state, she wrote a note on 185 lunch bags (enough for the whole year) with advice - because her sister was so popular everyone wants to know what the lunch bag says and many people fight over who gets to take the saying home. Tomorrow's selection says "Boys are like purses - cute, full of crap, and can always be replaced."
AnnieRu2 weight watchers also makes a pita, and I use 1/2 of one for chicken salad or tuna salad, and if you only eat 1/2 it is zero points because of the fiber. I have never seen the western bagel pitas, but my store used to carry their bagels and they were only 1 point. Can't find them at my store now, but I'm wondering if my costco has them.
Anyway, the ww pita's are regular size, not real big, but 1/2 is enough for me and I don't have to count it at lunch. That would cut your daughters lunch points down to 2. Just a suggestion. Maybe the western bagel ones are bigger and she needs more than 1/2 ww pita to fill her, but it's worth looking in to.
