Default I ate meat... and discovered I didn't like it..

I know meat isn't the healthiest thing to eat, reading "Eat to Live" and other things had shown me that. I don't always eat the healthiest things for me so it isn't too surprising that I'd try it. I also have a mental disconnect when it comes to farm animals versus other animals in that farm animals are food, other animals are not.

I hadn't eaten meat (or any animal products) in 3 months and before then, I had slowed down on eating meat quite a bit.

So I go on vacation, where meals are mostly buffets. Lots of things to choose from, mostly meaty. I decide to try meat once, hmm not how I remembered. I decide to try meat again, hmm again not how I remembered. I tried it a third time, ok it really just doesn't taste good.

The reactions from others indicated that the food was really good, I just couldn't taste the "really good" part. I guess I have entirely lost my taste for meat.

Now cheese on the other hand was another story.... I had cheese and enjoyed it but I didn't eat tons of it and I don't plan to eat it again for a long time (or any other animal product).

Can't say I find that surprising. Completely grosses me out personally

I've decided to go "100% no kidding vegan" in the new year. I mostly ate stuff with dairy or eggs in it as a convenience when eating out or to make my diet easier for other to accommodate, and I decided those were crappy reasons. I am so happy to be done with animal products forever

I've noticed the same thing, Nelie.
I never made any rules or promises about my dietary choices, but recently I had a couple of instances in which I remembered liking some kind of meat dish, so I tried it because of that memory, only to find that I no longer liked it. So it was a good experience anyway, because the old memories have now been replaced. Even rare seared ahi tasted like "meat" to me, in a not-good way.
I'm still eating goat-dairy however, and just yesterday got 2 quarts of goat milk and some goat yogurt and some goat-ice cream, from places that promise that their products come from happy goats dancing around on the farm. I really hope so!

I just went totally vegan myself I was eating dairy still and like Shananigans I was doing it for crappy reasons. I feel so much better! I noticed my eyes are already so much brighter perhaps I am the only one that notices it! haha. Well I am so excited anyways tonight I made "faux tuna" with mashed chickpeas naysonaise and celery plus seasonings...yummy!

Jasmine,

I was eating a vegan diet for 3 months although I'm not quite prepared to call myself a vegan. I may be close to being able to call myself a vegetarian though, especially since I know I don't like meat any more

Im suprised you even tried it again! I am afraid to even eat meat after its been months since I touched it, and the reason for this is because before I went completely vegetarian I was only eating chicken, fish, and turkey. Well I go a hold of something that had "rendered bacon fat" in it, which was a can veggie I had bought. I got sooooo sick so now that I havent eaten it for a while, just the mere thought that I might get sick if I do eat it, keeps me away

Its good now that you know you dont like it though, I remember pork as a love affair.. ham, bacon, pork chops, kielbasa, sausage, brats, ... but it will be a cold day in **** before I ever eat them again lol. I will stick to my Tofurkey lol ( which I never really eat unless I get that "meat" feeling) I havent finished The China Study yet, but I did read Eat to Live, and I have recommended it to everyone I can. That book really changed my life

My next goal is to go vegan, I am dipping my feet in the water slowly.. I have given up cows milk, for soy milk.. cheese amazingly I was able to banish.. I have eaten cheese however, its not something that I buy... I want to try soy yogurt because there are these little yogurt fruit cup things that I make that are SO good. Im almost afraid to put TOO much soy in my diet ya know? I really like sticking with fruits, veggies, beans, legumes.. stuff like that. Its almost like I would fall back on soy when I was in need of comfort foods. Anyway.. Im rambling. So you have any advice or products you were able to find to make becoming vegan easier?

Hi! I became veg. about 3 months ago, for ethical and health reasons. I decided about a week ago to have some venison from my cousin (which I used to love) since it was not factory farmed and discovered I HATED everything about it. I spit it out after one bite and gave the rest to the dog! Anyway, I guess there will be no more "cheating" for me.

Ready2ShedLbs -

Partially the reason for trying it again is because my food options were limited and also that I had the feeling of trying local foods for the places I visit as part of a cultural experience.

As for products, I really don't use any/many products. I do buy almond milk but I don't drink it that often. The other day I bought a tub of soy yogurt. It is a nice treat but I too don't want to eat too much soy.

I found eating vegan is very easy. I thought it'd be tough but it isn't.

Ready2ShedLBS.....

FYI, speaking of the bacon comment, Chipotle (I dont know if there is one around you) puts bacon in their pinto beans. And I have to say to watch out for pinto beans at restaurants because they might do it too. Yuck.

Wow you guys are doing great. I just read Eat to Live and I'm trying to get some support around doin' the "do" concerning the entire contents of the book!!!!

I have not eaten cheese or meat for 3 days now.......it's hard - that's where a lot of my fantasy's live and I used to eat a lot of fat on meat - I know I know gross - but to me it was my candy!!! anyway........I feel uncomfortable right now but I'm hoping things will settle some by Sunday.
