I have a problem with portion control, and if I don't snack throughout the day, I will PIG OUT at meal-time. My program says "Never let yourself get hungry" and I stick to that. It also says "Eat whenever you want as long as it has no carbs" so I stick to that too. It's about whatever works!
if you are allowed tio eat low carb stuff, dont u eat as much as it takes? i do& thats y i dont snack. i dont do portion control, i just stop when full.
Well, I do eat until I'm satisfied at meals. Breakfast is at 7:00 a.m. Then I usually don't have time to break for lunch until 2 or 3, so that's a long time for one full stomach to last. Then, dinner is delayed until sometimes 7 or even 8, depending how late I work. So I keep snacks handy that I can eat at my desk to keep the edge off, because if I get starving then I want stuff I'm not supposed to have, and that's how I got this fat to begin with. I really don't eat that much food, it's the type of foods I *used to* eat that got me in trouble. When someone at work is running to McDonald's or the ice cream shop, it's very tempting to say yes when they ask if I want something. When I'm not hungry it's a lot easier to say no.
Sherrie, that's exactly the same for me. I eat eggs or protein around 7am, and a late lunch, and an even later dinner. The late afternoon is hard for me, and I find I really do better if I have something substantial around 4, and a lighter dinner, just protien and 1 veggie. I have been bringing a portion of soup for 4 o'clock and it's very satisfying. Then I don't rush in the door after work ready to gobble anything in sight- my blood sugar stays more even, and I am calm enough to cook something healthy!
I think controling blood sugar and insulin is what is different for some people. A lot of us can't tolerate long periods without some nutrition.
I don't snack very often, the protein stays in my system longer than carbs do, so my need to snack has been greatly diminished. But I have GERD, and if my stomach gets empty I will be in an extraordinary amount of pain, so I sometimes have to snack to keep my stomach from getting empty.
I started this thread so I could get some more low carb food ideas...things maybe that I hadn't thought of...
Mmm...my favourite--sour cream dip and veggies--or even subsititute a scoop of mayo and cream cheese dip. I also like to have cheese melts--a square of ham or some other meat with grated cheddar and broiled in an oven--perfect for snacking on while cooking dinner!
