Angry I'm hungry- again!

This is the second day this week, that I haven't been able to fill up. I'm eating lots of veggies and protein, so it's not like I am starving- I should be full to the brim! Although I haven't gone over my calorie limit today, I can see it happening real quick if my appetite keeps up.

This happened to me on Saturday night, I went over by 547 calories, some to which I threw onto Sunday's calorie count, as it was consumed after midnight and I figured since Sunday was my high calorie day, I would put it there and hope that I didn't have the same appetite then. For some crazy reason, I woke up 5 lbs lighter Sunday morning, and thankfully, my appetite was good that day, so I didn't go over the allotted calorie range, which included the previous nights extra snack.

I've maintained that 5 lb loss, so I'm relieved it wasn't a fluke, but still, this is strange. I doubt I'll wake up five pounds less tommorrow morning, but I'm wondering how it can be that I am starving so much when I am eating plenty of food? None of these foods are trigger foods, by the way. I eat them all very often, and have never been hungry like this in the past.

Anyone else go through this? I just can't fill up today! I have another 521 calories left to eat today, but I'm afraid that my humongous appetite may cause me to go over again if I don't fill up fast! Even drinking more water isn't helping me.

I have been feeling this lately too. Just ravenous. Yesterday I went over on my calories by about 400 calories, but was down a pound the next day. I don't get it either. Oh well, I am trying to just listen to my body and if I'm hungry I eat, but choose healthy stuff and try to keep the damage to a minimum.

Hi I looked at your fitday calorie counter and don't know if you put all your things there today, but it said only 1057 calories for the day. Is this right? For me personally anything under 1400 calories and I am hungry and weak and tired. This was my food for today:
Breakfast: Kashi go lean crunch cereal and skim milk( 1/2 cup of cereal and milk) and one small banana. Usually I drink grapefruit juice, but didn't, so I ate the banana instead.
Lunch: 2 black bean burgers( no bread) , with some pickled onions, and salsa.
Dinner 2 corn tortillas, black beans sauted with onions and garlic( 1/2 cup of the mixture), fat free sour cream and more onions.
Snacks: Kashi tlc bar, 1 cup of fage yogurt with 6 strawberries, 1 cup of black berries
I am not hungry tonight. Maybe you are bored with your food?

I have some days I'm really hungry and others I'm fine. I don't know why, as I eat about the same amount most of the time.

Is it TOM by any chance?

I was hungry all day (not TOM) and went 500cal over my goal, but I'm not going to stress. I was actually hungry and I'm trying to learn to listen to my body, not my boredom. Other days I've ended up 500cal under my goal because I simply wasn't hungry.

There are certain days where I am just truly hungrier then others, no rhyme, no reason. So I eat a little more. I guess that's my way of "calorie cycling" so to speak. I know some people do it intentionally, but for me, it occurs naturally. Then of course there are days when I am more "munched" then others, though not truly hungry. I HATE those days.

Another thing I just wanted to mention. You talked about going "over" your calories for the day and then having a loss the next day. I know for ME, it takes 2 - 3 days for a loss to show up or a gain. In other words if I eat really poorly one day, the weight will not show up on the scale the very next day, it sometimes takes up to 3, same thing with a loss.

Robin- I went over on Saturday, but added some of the calories to Sunday's count, so thankfully, I didn't go over my calorie average for the week. I do the "Wendie Plan" using calories instead of points, and thank goodness Sunday was my high day, so I didn't miss out on the extra calories.

I'm still within my calorie range today- I made myself some turkey, bologna, and cheese roll ups and had some popcorn and a fun sized Mounds bar. I am finally full, at least for now. I made sure to eat the protein first, to see if it would help fill me.

I completely forgot- just before I made my second meal, my son, as a joke, wanted to see if I could lift the amount of weight I lost on the weight bench. I took the challenge and did it for 12 reps, then proceeded to make my meal. It was just before I started eating that I became ravenous and was still starving after I ate. Could this have caused it? I only did 12 reps, not like I was lifting for an hour or two.

I just want to echo what robin said... it can take several days for the fat burning or fat adding process to occur. Yet another reason why, in the short term, it can be really hard to see what's happening.

My doctor told me that women especially have this happen when they are losing weight. Apparently when we start losing weight we'll continue to lose until there comes a point where we become VERY hungry, and that is the body basically responding to the reduced caloried intake. The body thinks it's starving and wants to keep fat (because women tend to have higher body fat which is helpful for reproduction, yadda yadda). Surprisingly, when you ignore severe hunger for too long you'll plateau/stop losing weight as fast (which happens to a lot of us with a significant amount to lose) because the body thinks it's REALLY starving so it holds on to any/all fat and colories it can. So, when you actually recognize that you're really hungry, and not just bored-hungry, and then you allow yourself to eat a bit more, your body realizes that it is getting food and not actually starving. If you eat a bit more your metabolism gets a jump-start and BOOM you somehow wake up weighing less when you thought you ate more than you should.

Of course this is NOT to say you should overeat everyday/regularly. Its more like saying that if you're hungry, REALLY hungry, its okay to eat a little more (healthy options of course) but then continue to stick to whatever your weight loss plan is. In fact, making sure you recognize when to feed your super duper hunger will make you more successful in the long run.

So that's a long, random attempt at trying to explain the unexpected weight loss. Hope it helps!

I don't have PMS and I finished that TOM on Saturday, so that's not it.

I finished my antibiotic on Monday, so I don't think that has anything to do with it.

I have plenty of food in the house, all stuff that I absolutely love, yet the only thing that appealed to me is some pasta with stir fry sauce, steak and snap peas. So, I just made up a bowl and will eat it in a few minutes, and meanwhile, plan on tracking this "hunger" problem and see if there is anything relative to it.

My husband said he thinks I'm not taking in enough calories everyday. I showed him my Fit Day, and he said he thinks that I should probably stay within 1800-2000 calories a day until I stop losing. I know that I haven't had any problems with hunger, not even when I was PMsing a couple of weeks ago, until Saturday, and then, today. I was going to go to bed earlier and tried, but I was STILL starving. No amount of water, fruits, veggies, or protein has filled me.

I'm not a carb addict, so thankfully, that's not the problem. I have mostly healthy food in the house with some junk, but none of the junk appeals to me, nor does the majority of the health food.

Very strange, but definitely something I want to keep track of. I'll let you know what the scale says tommorrow and see if it is relative to losing or not.

Thanks for all of your replies! I appreciate it.

I lost another pound.

So far, I haven't been hungry today, either. I hope whatever's going on this week doesn't continue, or I'll be Coocoo for Cocoa Puffs by the end of this journey.
