Default To scale or not to scale...

I am looking for some input here. My mom always had a scale around the house when I was younger. I never had a weight problem (granted I was very active and a kid, etc). After I moved out, I never owned a scale through college and still do not. I am thinking about buying one because I am beginning to think that perhaps I allowed myself to gain so much weight partially because by not having one, I did not have to see that number go up and up: The ol' "ignorance is bliss" adage! On the other hand, I do not want to buy one and become obsessed with that number because I know there is so much more to being healthy than what is on the scale and I do not want to get discouraged if I see a decrease one day and then an increase a day or two later. What are your experiences and opinions? Please tell me your thoughts.

I do own a scale but I do not weigh every day. Weighing too often is the way to drive yourself batty.I weigh once a week , that way I am not aware of the fluctuations which are normal.

Do you go to a center? If you do, then you can just skip the scale. I don't go to a center any more...I just WI at home three times/week. It can definitely become an obsessive thing.

I have a scale that measures body fat too, so then I can measure my progress more than one way. They don't do that at the center and it can be encouraging (as long as you don't get obsessive, which is hard to do).

I have to admit sometimes I weigh my clothes on my scale at home to decide what to wear to my weigh in (so I've not got the obsessive thing licked at all)
